John Callicutt Obituary

JOHN SPENCER CALLICUTT, III of Richland-Chambers Lake entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 20, 2007. Preceded in death by his father, John Spencer Callicutt Jr., he is survived by his mother, Clellia Mae Hilliard Callicutt of Corsicana; his wife, Margaret: his daughter, Cylynne Grace Callicutt of Crosby; his son, Johnathan Callicutt and wife, Lisa of Crosby; his grandchildren, Clayton Spencer and Hayley Nicole Callicutt of Crosby; his brother, Jack Callicutt and wife Sandra of Holly Lake Ranch; nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. Born November 29, 1938 in Taft, his family returned to the Corsicana home of his grandparents, Judge John Spencer Callicutt and Evelina, when he was 12 years of age. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1956, completed two years at Navarro College, and transferred to North Texas State College. He graduated from NTSC in 1961 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. While at NTSC, he met Margaret Bennett- the love of his life and his wife of 46 years. Upon graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army proudly serving his country as a member of the 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas. When Honorably Discharged in September, 1964, he and Margaret relocated to Houston with the two absolute joys of his life: his daughter and his son. While in Houston, John was employed for 29 years with Westinghouse Electric and four years at Eaton Cutler-Hammer in the position of inside-sales. He retired in 1998. While his children were growing up, John was active in Jacinto City Little League serving both as a coach and president of the league. He also coached pop Warner football. He loved the outdoors, especially the Texas Hill country. He loved sports, especially UT football. He was an avid fisherman and looked forward to every spring as the crappie filled his cove at the Lake. His greatest love, however, was time spent with his family and friends. A celebration of John's life will be held at Corley Funeral Home, 418 North 13th Street, Corsicana, Texas. Visitation on Saturday, September 22, from 6-8pm. Service on Sunday, September 23 at 2pm. Burial to follow in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery. Rev Mike Alexander & Rev. Warren Green officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Billy Don Atkeisson of Corsicana; Johnny Baggett of Seattle, WA; and John Barron of Corsicana. Pallbearers are Don Cofer of Corsicana; Bobby Carpenter of Corsicana; Jay Estes of McKinney; Stan Niece of Plano; Alan Taylor of Cypress; Keith Young of Hill Top Lakes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Tyler Office, 1301 South Broadway, Tyler, Texas 75701

I'm so sorry for your loss. John was a class mate of mine that I've seen far to seldom over the years.

Margaret, you have my deepest sympathy. God needed another angel, and I suppose today John needed to fill that spot. May your family be comforted at this time.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He & I both retired the same day from Eaton. I still have to laugh when he told me that he was saving money to buy a new computer to replace the one he was going to throw out of the window when he retired. I worked at the Satellite Plant for Eaton.
