John Carpenter Obituary

JOHN PHILLIP CARPENTER, JR. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. in Magnolia City Cemetery in Magnolia, Arkansas for John Phillip Carpenter, Jr. who died Monday, September 26, 2005 at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 10:00 A.M. until service time at A.O. Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Arkansas. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 3, 2005 at 4:00 P.M. in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers, Lafayette, LA. Big John was born February 4, 1924 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He resided in New Orleans, LA from 1961-1996, then later settled in Breaux Bridge, LA. Big John was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and a Razorback Football Letterman. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. For 37 years, he was a veteran in the Offshore Drilling Industry. He retired as President of Fluor Drilling Services. He served as region president of the International Association of Drilling Contractors in New Orleans, LA. He was awarded the Silver Beaver from the Southeast Louisiana Council, Boy Scouts of America. Big John was a member of the Boston Club West in New Orleans, Acadian Hills Country Club and the Petroleum Club in Lafayette. Survivors include his sons, Phil Carpenter and his wife Kaylynn of Lafayette, LA and Mark Carpenter of Gladewater, TX; grandson, Chase Carpenter; his former wife and companion, Mary McIntire Carpenter of Ruston, LA; step-sons, George Dewey McIntire of Cutoff, LA, Daniel P. McIntire of Florida, Barney A. McIntire and wife Carol of Birmingham, AL, Michael H. McIntire and wife Jane of Madisonville, LA, and Shaun Lapleau McIntire and wife Melinda of Ruston, LA; and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Phillip Carpenter, Sr. and Myrtle Wingfield Carpenter. Donations can be made to the Evangeline Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 80115, Lafayette, LA 70598. A.O. Smith Funeral Home, 805 Thomas Street, Stamps, Arkansas 71860; 870-533-2555 are funeral directors in charge of all Arkansas funeral arrangements.
