John Giannakis

It is with immense love and great sadness that his family announce the passing of Dr. John George Giannakis. Dr. Giannakis (or "Dr G" as his patients and friends affectionately called him) passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones. He passed right before sunset on April 22nd after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dr. Giannakis was a truly remarkable and selfless husband, father, papou, brother, surgeon, and friend. An avid golfer and lover of soccer, John's truest passion was spending his summer vacations with his family and loved ones on the island of Cyprus.

John is survived by many lives he touched throughout the years, including his wife Diana, his two children Despina Scrutchin and George Giannakis, their spouses Jake Scrutchin and Louise Giannakis and his three beloved granddaughters Daphne, Dahlia, and Eleanora.

In the words of his favorite Greek band, Pix Lax, he will be missed: "In the forgotten summers...
In the nights of endless silence...
In everything that we went through together".

In honor of his wishes, funeral services will be held in Cyprus. The family plans to announce a memorial service in early fall in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

John was such a good and great man . He performed successful prostrate surgery to greatly enhance my life . I totally blocked a few days after my surgery and he saved my life . I did not have an appointment but he made time to fix my issue . During my time seeing him towards the end he was dealing with cancer . You would never know it. He was a kind man, happy , fulfilled ,brilliant, fun, and hard working. Miss him, a great, great man.

I just found out and am beyond words. He was my dr for over 15 years and performed 3 surgeries on me last one in September. Being Greek myself we had a special relationship. To his family, he was truly an amazing dr and friend and will forever be my urologist. Blue skies and god speed DOC. I will miss him teaching me Greek and letting me look at my cat scans with him and letting me call out what the pics were and finding my stones. Beyond saddened and truly at a loss for words. Thanks for all you did for all of us!!!

I just found out about Dt.G's passing. I was shocked and terribly saddened
He had been my doctor for 10 years and had such kindness when me and also
a wonderful sense of humor.

Just found out that Dr. Giannakis passed away and was shocked. He removed my kidney cancer and Always made me feel like I was going to be ok. His calmness, care, and sense of humor was just what i needed. I will-like so many others- miss him. He will be hard to replace. Prayers to his family for peace and comfort.

Dr. G was my physician and I just found out about his passing on this day.

I am so very sorry for your loss. He was a great Dr. and was professional and friendly.

Dr. G liked to kid around with me especially since I kidded around so much with him. When I had a kidney stone, he came into the room and said "Steven, which side was the stone on again"? as he smiled. I said good one Doc, good one!

Dr Giannakis was a great doctor, and friend of ours. He treated my husband for bladder cancer, and always was straightforward and honest with his care and treatment. We will miss him dearly, and his family will be in our prayers, this is a rough time for them. Our hearts go out to them. I hope we find a doctor to continue our treatment that is as caring as he was will be hard.
