John Karras Obituary

JOHN KARRAS, 64, passed away on December 12, 2003. John is survived by his wife and partner of 33 years, Aliki, daughters Eleftheria (Liberty), and Maria with grandchildren, Zacharias and Zoe. He is also survived by his mother, Maria Karageorgiou, sisters, Susanna and her husband George Kaklamanos, Eleni and her husband, Kostas Vlahakis, and Angeliki (Kiki) Konsoulas, numerous nieces and nephews with their spouses and families, Godchildren, and friends all over the United States, Canada, Australia, and Greece. He was preceded in death by his father Chrysostomos Karageorgiou. John Karras was born in Skalohori, a small village on the Greek island of Lesvos on December 4, 1939. He moved to Montreal before settling in Houston in 1968. In 1971, John opened his own restaurant, City Café, with his wife by his side and their first of two daughters on the way. For 15 years, City Café was the center of political, financial, and worldly debates and decisions. His staff and customers became a second family and showered him with respect befitting a king. He realized his dreams and expressed his hopes, with his wife by his side, in his daughters and their achievements, and saw his future in his grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM with a Trisagion service at 7:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. For those desiring, contributions may be made in his name to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral - Religious Education.
