John.... you never realize how short of a time we have on this earth until someone who has made an impact on our life is suddenly taken away. I realize, now that you are no longer with us, that I had the honor of seeing a side of you that most people who knew you never saw. Behind that rough exterior was a man that was knowledgeable, caring, humorous and Oh, so very interesting. Your kindness, generosity and selflessness are examples for one to live by. You truely were a great man and a great friend. I know you will be watching over all of our lost little ones so I ask you to give Izzy and Ernie some extra time in your lap and let them know we will see them again one day. Until that time comes you will be in my heart on my mind and deeply missed.

Dearest John - What will we do without you? So many great times together in front of the Christmas Eve fire on Kent Lane and your spirit loud and clear in all you did for the Church and her people.
You were greatly loved, and that continues. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant. xo

A wonderful description of an impressive life well lived. Yes, that "grumpy exterior" was temporarily disarming to those of us who grew up at Good Shepherd in Austin, when John served there.
