Joyce Sinclair Obituary

Joyce Sinclair
03/23/1935 - 03/25/2024
Joyce Foreman Sinclair went home to her Lord and Savior on March 25, 2024 at her retirement home, Buckner's Parkway Place in Houston, Texas. Joyce was born on March 23, 1935, to Dr. A. D. Foreman, Jr., and Euna Lee (Scarborough) Foreman. She grew up in San Angelo and Amarillo, Texas where her father pastored the First Baptist Church in both cities and in Memphis, Tennessee where he pastored Temple Baptist Church. Her great-grandfather, a part-time Baptist preacher, migrated to the Abilene, Texas area as a young man, living in a dugout where his children got their start. With great sacrifice, he sent one of his children, Joyce's grandfather, L. R. Scarborough, to Baylor and Yale Universities where he studied religion and law. Dr. Scarborough later became the second president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he served for 27 years. In addition to her ancestors, Joyce joins her brother: A. D. Foreman, III; sisters-in-law: Joyce (Litton) Foreman and Barbara (Gunter) Foreman and brother-in-law: Alvin Holloway Sinclair, Jr. in heaven.
Joyce was a graduate of Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee and Baylor University, Class of 1957, where she met her suite mate's brother, Ben Clanton Sinclair, a student at Texas A&M University. Joyce and Ben were married on December 27, 1956, at Temple Baptist Church in Memphis with her father officiating. Ben's career carried them to Alexandria, Virginia; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Shreveport, Louisiana (twice); Jackson, Mississippi; Midland, Texas; Spring, Texas; Montgomery, Texas and finally to Parkway Place in Houston.
Joyce spent some time as a public schoolteacher but her primary role in life was creating a nurturing and loving home environment for her husband of over 67 years, and their three sons, Mark Foreman Sinclair, Scott Clanton Sinclair and Greg Warren Sinclair and their families. Joyce was an active, life-long church member giving freely of her time to support the mission of the church and those in need. With her refined dignity, heart full of compassion for humanity, love of family, grace through adversity, faithful obedience to God's commands and constant pursuit of His will for her life, she was a true role model of what a Christian life should be. She reveled in God's creation and planned trips throughout much of the world to take it in – first for her young grandchildren over much of Texas and later for herself and Ben over the United States (with annual trips to the Colorado mountains), Canada, Alaska, England, Ireland, Scotland, most of western Europe and New Zealand, always including time and plans for Ben's passion for fly-fishing. She was a wonderful and tireless cook and the recipes she used have been passed on as favorites to multiple generations.
In addition to her husband and sons, Joyce is survived by her brother: Dr. Lee Scarborough Foreman; sisters-in-law: Helen Sinclair and Tabitha Wagner; brother-in-law: Duane Wagner; daughters-in-law: Karen Sinclair, Bridget Sinclair and Charlotte Sinclair; grandchildren: Dylan Wilcox and his wife, Jenee, Derek Wilcox, Katherine Lyttle and her husband Dominic, Matthew Sinclair, Erin Sinclair, and Spencer Sinclair and his wife, Annie; great-grandchildren: Sequoia Wilcox, Cade Vagnier, Cameron Wilcox, Taylor Wilcox, Charlee Wilcox, Asher Lyttle, Eliyah Lyttle, Hadley Sinclair, Weston Sinclair and River Lyttle and a large number of nieces and nephews. Though deeply saddened by the thought of an earthly life without Joyce, her family members rejoice in the knowledge that she has passed on to an eternal life in God's glory.
Relatives, family, and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life service at First Baptist Church, 600 North Main Street in Conroe, Texas on Friday, April12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the Belle Bower Cemetery, 1497 Speights Road, Keatchie, Louisiana (west of Longstreet, Louisiana).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, 600 North Main Street, Conroe, Texas 77301 or the charity of your choice. The Schmidt Funeral Home, West, 1344 W. Grand Parkway South, Katy, Texas, email: [email protected], is in charge of the cremation and other final details.
