Kathleen Ylinen Obituary

Kathleen Daun (Burnison) Ylinen
1941-2019
Kathleen Daun Ylinen, 77, passed away January 25th, 2019, in Houston surrounded by family and friends following a brief hospitalization.
Born in Great Falls, Montana, on April 21st, 1941, the daughter of Florence "Babe" and W.E. "Bill" Burnison, she grew up in Wolf Point with her two brothers, Bill and Kent. She graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman in 1963 with a degree in education and afterward taught elementary school in Billings. She married her husband of 54 years, Robert "Bob" Ylinen, on August 23rd, 1964, in Wolf Point.
Kathy raised three children in Houston and was recognized for 17 years of service as a volunteer in public schools. She inspired many throughout her life, both as a volunteer and while engaging the friends of her children, who always liked chatting with her.
She was warm and approachable and enjoyed initiating conversation with new people in places she would visit. Kathy laughed easily and had a keen sense of humor. She was a good listener and could always find a way to comfort those around her. Kathy provided valuable counsel and guidance to her family and friends.
She was an avid reader and gardener, growing various roses and herbs. Kathy will be remembered for her culinary skills, as she prepared consistently delicious meals for her family, often incorporating items from her garden. Her baked goods were loved by neighbors and children of all ages.
Her immediate family survivors include husband Robert of Houston, Texas; daughter Deborah and husband Chris Smith of Manor, Texas; son Kyle of Los Angeles, California; and son Judd, wife Leslie and granddaughter Vera Kathleen of San Francisco, California.
In her final years Kathy suffered from normal pressure hydrocephalus. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hydrocephalus Association. Visit www.DettlingFuneral.com to leave words of condolence for the family.
