Kay Sharp Obituary

Kay Sharp
03/27/1936 - 02/02/2026
Kay Sharp passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, on Monday the 2nd of February 2026. She was born on the 27th of March 1936, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Lucille Shoemate Belknap and Harold Raymond Belknap.
Kay graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1958 with a degree in zoology. While at OU, she served as head cheerleader during the Bud Wilkinson era and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later trained in medical technology at St. Francis Hospital on Oahu, Hawaii, where she lived during Hawaii's statehood in 1959.
After moving to Houston, Kay worked as a Laboratory Technologist at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children's Hospital before beginning a long career in real estate. She was an early chairman of both the Opera Ball and the Zoo Ball and served on the boards of Planned Parenthood and Channel 8. She was also a member of the Junior League, Texas Corinthian Yacht Club, The Forest Club, and The Bayou Club.
Kay was known for her love of animals and wildlife and cared for countless pets and strays throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dr. Hal Belknap, Jr.; her nephew, Hal Belknap III; her sister-in-law, Judy Vergara Sharp; and her husband of thirty-eight years, Dudley C. Sharp, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Gigi Sharp, Tina Sharp McMackin, and Lucy Sharp; her grandchildren; and great-grandchild; and her nieces and nephews.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to her best friend and caretaker of over forty years, Maria Cruz Terrazas and her son Francisco Terrazas. They also want to thank Kim Kendricks, Juan Lopez, and Dinah Dirks for their care and friendship.
A private graveside service is to be conducted at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the Houston SPCA at houstonspca.org
