Lana Short Obituary

Lana Reeves Short died Wednesday, the 16th of October 2013, in Houston. She was born on the 15th of October 1943, in Paris, Texas.
Lana later moved to Texarkana and graduated from Texas High School. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and developed many life-long friendships through the sorority. Lana taught in the Spring Branch School District, and had careers in volunteer services at MD Anderson Hospital as well as community relations for Texas Eastern Corporation. She took special joy in serving as Manager of the St. John's Bookstore helping people find the perfect book and gift for every occasion.
She was a member of the Church of St. John the Divine and active in Daughters of the King, Lay Eucharistic Ministry and was the past president of the ECW. At the time of her death, Lana was serving as a member of the Vestry. She loved her church and ministered to many people through the years both as an employee and parishioner.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, writing, and travelling. She was blessed in the last year of her life with special trips to the Holy Land, Charleston, and Colorado. Lana and Keith experienced a Cursillo weekend in 1993 and she was a faithful member of her Friday reunion group since that time. Until her illness, she was an active Stephen Minister serving in many leadership positions.
She will be lovingly remembered by a multitude of special friends, who loved, supported and prayed for her throughout the years, particularly her Tuesday prayer group during her year long battle with pancreatic cancer.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Keith; her three children: John Short, Mary Kathryn and husband Rob Burke, Amy and husband Mike Reeves; as well as her mother Georgia and husband Mike Dillingham; and her beloved five grandchildren: Braden and Harrison Burke, Parker, Hudson and MaryAlan Reeves. Also surviving Lana are her sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephew, aunts and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Lansing Reeves; her two brothers Alan and Philip Reeves; and her son James Short.
The family would like to thank MD Anderson and their amazing team of nurses, physician assistants, and especially Dr. Michael Overman, for their support and care this past year.
A memorial service is to be conducted at noon on Saturday, the 19th of October, at the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall, Rector, the Rev. Douglas W. Richnow, Senior Associate Rector, the Rev. Nancy P. DeForest, Rector at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Beaumont, the Rev. Reagan W. Cocke, Associate Rector, the Rev. Randall Trego, Staff Chaplain at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, the Rev. Janet W. Dantone, Associate Rector, the Rev. Matthew C. Fenlon, Assistant Rector, and the Rev. Deacon Gregory J. Buffone are to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX, 77019.
"We would not have you ignorant, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep."
(1 Thessalonians 4:13-14).
