Linda Walden Obituary

Linda Walden
02/19/1944 - 09/27/2025
Linda Brown Walden, 81, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Houston, Texas after her battle with Alzheimer's. Born on February 19, 1944, in Manchester, Connecticut, she lived a life marked by determination, joy, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Linda's early years were filled with promise and achievement. She graduated as salutatorian from Riviera Beach High School in South Florida in 1962, where she also served as captain of the cheerleading squad-a role that reflected her spirited nature and leadership. Her academic excellence led her to Duke University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1966. While at Duke, she was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

In the 1980s, Linda channeled her passion for nature and design into founding LBWalden Landscape and Sprinklers. With creative vision, dedication and sweat, she built the company from the ground up and remained actively involved until the age of 71. For nine of those years, she worked alongside her daughter Robyn Walden Baker, mentoring her with care and pride. Robyn now carries forward Linda's legacy through the continued success of the family business.

Linda's adventurous spirit was evident in every facet of her life. She found joy in kayaking along quiet waters, camping under starlit skies, dancing with abandon, tending to her garden, and playing rounds of golf with friends and family. Her vibrant smile lit up every room-and trail-she entered.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Robyn Walden Baker and son-in-law Robson Martin McDonald Baker; her son David Earl Walden and daughter-in-law Sarah Mason Walden; her cherished granddaughters Ella Ruth Baker and Emily Haddyr Walden; her brother Thomas Gustave Brown and sister-in-law Anne Colleen Brown.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Ruth Wyatt Brown and William Hirsch Brown; and by her brother William "Buddy" Hirsch Brown Jr.

May Linda's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire all who were touched by her warmth, strength, and zest for life. A Funeral Service and reception will be held on October 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Grace Bible Church 6325 Hurst Street.

Yesterday

I also met Linda through River Oaks Women's Breakfast Club many years ago. I believe she was starting her landscaping business during the time we first met. Having no knowledge about creating a soothing and colorful garden, I reached out to her to help me create it in our yard. I remember how reassuring and nonjudgmental she was about my inability to answer even the most basic question about what plants and flowers I liked. However, WITHOUT any guidance from me, she read my mind and created exactly what me and my husband loved then and for years to come. Though we lost touch over the years, I will always remember those days with Linda and the joy her garden brought into our lives.

Linda and I met in 1962 at Duke when we pledged Theta. We decided to de-pledge together during one boring meeting when we thought we needed to be studying. We ended up being President of the chapter for a semester each in our senior year. She was a good friend of many years and I've missed her greatly.

I met Linda through River Oaks Women´s Breakfast Club many years ago. We have shared many fond memories. Linda also beautified our yard for many years and now Robin shows up frequently to keep her mother´s landscaping up. Robin, we will be praying for you and your family as you mourn and celebrate your mom. Blessings to you all. John & Linda
