My prayers are with Mr. Lon Flippen's family. He was a very nice man I met when I started working at Baylor 33 years before my early retirement. Had a lot of interaction with the business office and the data entry department. Always friendly. Peace be with all his loved ones.

Twenty seven years ago, Mr. Flippen offered me a job in the Business Office at Baylor. I will always be grateful to him for that. He was the most wonderful boss a person could ever work for. He would always be there for you when you needed someone to talk to. Even after his retirement, he would come by sometimes and visit his "old friends" at Baylor. When I saw him in the hospital just the other day, he said to me, "I did good when I hired you,," Mr. Flippen, I will miss you.

I still remember the day Lon Flippen interviewed me for my first full time job -- Accounts Payable clerk in the Business Office of Baylor College of Medicine. That was in January, 1970. I worked for him for 7 years and while he appeared to be gruff and severe, he was really a sweetheart inside. I remember him as he leaned back in his chair and looked at me over the top of his glasses and instructed me to 'leave tracks' (so auditors would be placated, of course)! He was a dear man and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Without Lon Flippen my early years at BCM would have been difficult. He never failed to 'set one straight' with humor tinged instructions! He knew this place backward and forward, top to bottom, and all the attendant rules attached thereto. His passing is like a bit of Baylor passing. I was so sorry to hear of his death. My sincere sympathy is extended to his loved ones.

Back in 1983, I began my employment at BCM. I worked in the Business Office and Mr. Flippen was my boss. I only spent a year in the department before transferring so that I could go to college. But, Mr. Flippen was a wonderful man and still remembered me several years after I had left the department. I remember seeing him at all of the annual credit union meetings with a smile on his face. My condolences to his family.
