Lorraine Leavitt Obituary

GRANBURY -- LORRAINE LEAVITT, 85, went home to her heavenly Father on October 30, 2007. She was the wife of Lewis A. Leavitt, MD, former Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She was born in Rochester, NY to Joseph John Hartung and Kathleen Tice Hartung in 1922, attended Holy Family Church and Nazareth Academy. They moved to Los Angeles in 1938 and she graduated from Belmont High School in 1940. Lorraine was hard working, witty and charitable always giving of herself. She was active in her church, PTA, Scouts, Garden Club, Harris County Women's Medical Auxiliary, Baylor College of Medicine Women's Auxiliary, as well as various other organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis A. Leavitt, MD, parents, her brother Kenneth Bruce Hartung, killed in New Guinea in WWII and her other brother Joseph Theodore Hartung. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Leavitt Harris and husband Philip H. Harris, Jr. of Granbury, TX, son Lewis A. Leavitt MD of El Paso, TX and grand children and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston on November 2, 2007. In lieu of flowers you may make contributions to the Baylor College of Medicine in her name, Houston, TX, or your favorite animal charity.
