Lynn Leigh Obituary

Lynn L. Leigh, 92, passed away early in the morning on Sunday, February 25th, 2018, at home in Houston, Texas. Lynn was a wonderful man. He was a great husband, a loving father a proud grandfather as well as a true friend. Lynn is survived by his wife of 23 yrs. Betty Barnett Leigh, the love of his life. He is also survived by daughters Holly Dewar and Lori Leigh, his beloved stepchildren, Jennifer Hamelet, and Jeffrey Gray Peden, wife Elena and three beautiful grandsons, Gray, John Gates and Gardner. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews living in Texas, Hawaii and Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth & Millard Leigh of Burley, Idaho and his sister Beryl and husband Sherwood Hendrickson of Hermiston, Oregon.
After retiring (for the third time!) he and Betty designed and built their beautiful home together. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, entertaining and just being together.
Born and raised in Idaho, he was selected for the prestigious V-12 Officers Training Program and attended the University of Kansas where he received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1948. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and was later honored as a Significant Sig.
Lynn had a long and distinguished career in the oil service industry beginning with the National Supply Co. right out of college and returning full-circle to a later iteration of the same company which is now known as National Oilwell Varco (NOV) in 1993. After 50 years in the industry, he retired for the last time from NOV in early 1998.

The oil industry took Lynn to many places including Canada, Venezuela, New York and Texas. He worked with companies such as Hydril, Grasso Oilfield, Kendavis Holding Co., Unit Rig and Equipment Co., Summit Oilfield, Gardner-Denver Co., Reed Roller Bit and Cardwell Manufacturing, among others. He served on numerous boards including Bank of America and especially enjoyed the friendships he made during his 17 year tenure on the board of Global Marine.
Lynn was well respected and admired by many, he was a true leader. Lynn always wanted his employees to succeed and prosper. He was known as an advocate for his employees and saw them as part of the team, just as he was a part.
We certainly want to recognize and thank Faustino (Tino) Vaquera for three years of friendship, compassion, love and care.
Lynn will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him, he was a true gentleman.
Service to be held Friday, March 2 at Bellaire United Methodist Church, 4417 Bellaire Blvd. at 2:00 pm.

My condolences to the Leigh family. Proverbs 22:1 says "A good name is to be chosen rather than great wealth; To be respected is better than silver and gold". Mr. Leigh leaves behind a good and honored name. His loved ones can take comfort in that.
