Margaret N. Byers (Peg) returned home to the Lord on May 12, 2023. Peg was born on December 9, 1929, in New York City. Houston was her home since 1972. Her son, Donald, predeceased her. She is survived by her beloved husband, George, of 71 years; daughter Lois Lynn Whelan (Thomas), son Douglas Byers (Carol). Grandchildren Lauren Byers Gorman (Mark), Brian Byers (Amanda), Kevin Byers (Leanna), and Katelyn Whelan Wilkinson (Tate). She was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren: Taylor, Paige and Reese Gorman, and Nathan Wilkinson. Sister Joan Panarello (Joseph).
Peg enjoyed volunteering. She was a member of the Board of Education in Montvale, New Jersey, and served in the many churches the family attended. Since 1986, she was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Bridgebuilders Sunday School Class, the Prime Timers, NOAH Choir, the Kitchen Band, and she has served on the Church Council and the Board of Stewards. She also was a member of the PEO Chapter EP in Houston.
She graduated from schools in the Northeast and worked in New York City, Vermont, and Houston as an executive secretary. She enjoyed many hobbies including painting, needlework, sewing and reading. She and George also loved their extensive travels in the USA and abroad. Her greatest focus, however, was her family who she loved dearly.
A celebration of Peg's life will be conducted at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, at 11:00 o'clock on May 20, 2023, with The Reverend Dr. Gene Cragg and The Reverend James H. McPhail officiating. A reception will follow the service.
