Marianne Blanton Obituary

With a zest for life that only God above could have created and a smile that would never fail to lift your heart, MARIANNE PENNY BLANTON lived her life of 46 wonderful years. Always a wife, always a mother and always a daughter and a sister, an unwavering devotion to her family was apparent to and indelible upon everyone who knew her. Marianne was a gift from God to us all and unconditionally gave her life to our Creator and to her family and friends. Born on Friday, May 13, 1960, in Houston, Texas, Marianne was the third of three "Penny Girls." Marianne grew up in Houston and was a light of life to her family. Marianne gave her life to Jesus as a teenager and was active in her local church, Tallowood Baptist Church and in Young Life at Memorial High School. Marianne graduated from Memorial High School in 1978, and then attended Baylor University in Waco where she and Bill, her husband of 22 years, first met their junior year. Marianne excelled at Baylor in every way, as a top student, officer of her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, student General Manager of KWBU, Baylor's radio station and lover of fun. Marianne had a way of lifting up everyone around her. Marianne graduated from Baylor in 1982 with a Bachelor's degree in Radio-TV, then remained in Waco as a local on-air news reporter. After a couple of years as a reporter, Marianne moved back to Houston to join Bill, who was attending law school. Marianne and Bill married on December 29, 1984 in Houston. Marianne then went to work for her beloved father as an Ad Exec at Penny & Speier advertising agency until having their first child, Danielle, in 1987 and becoming a "stay-at-home" mom. Soon afterward came Julianne in 1989 and Brooke in 1992. Marianne loved being a mom and loved her daughters so much more than even her own life. The family moved to San Antonio in 1989 and then to Boerne in 1998. After Brooke started first grade, Marianne returned to college and earned a degree in Education and began working at Boerne Middle School North. During that time, Marianne made her mark on countless kids and was nominated as the Disney Teacher of the Year nationwide. Marianne was later led to go on staff with Young Life Boerne and was instrumental in starting its middle school program, which is still changing the lives and loving kids. Marianne was also a significant part of Currey Creek Baptist Church in Boerne and loved her church family. Marianne continued to change lives after moving to Grand Junction, Colorado, where Bill became the Area Director for Young Life. Marianne was a devoted and loved teacher at Mount Garfield Middle School. Most of all, Marianne was devoted to Jesus Christ and proudly acknowledged Him as her Lord, Savior, Friend and Guide for Life. Her Lord, her family and her friends made her happy until Jesus brought her home on March 10, 2007, where she is this very moment in paradise beyond compare with our Lord-probably getting a killer tan on a white sand beach. Marianne is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Danielle, Julianne and Brooke; beloved mother, Linda Felton Penny; sisters, Diane Parma and husband Frank and Roxanne Dyess and husband Doug; In-laws, Gene and Sue Blanton, Ron and Kathleen, Jimmy and Stacey and Daryl and Carole Blanton. Marianne was also "Aunt Mary" to numerous adored nieces and nephews. Marianne's father, Charles R. "Dick" Penny, met Marianne at the gates of Heaven with an eternal hug and laugh, no longer to miss each other. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 3:30 p. m. until 4:00 p. m. Saturday, March 17, 2007, in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, where funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. with T. J. Dickerson, officiating. Marianne loved daisies. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Marianne's name be sent to, Young Life, P. O. Box 60145, Grand Junction, Colorado 81505, so that her passing will continue to lead teenagers to Jesus Christ and change their lives forever as her life on earth did so significantly. Thank You.

I was so shocked and saddened to read of Marianne's passing. Bill, I am sure you don't remember me, but I was at your wedding reception. I was good friends with Diane and Roxanne. Roxanne was my roommate for 2 years after college, but I have lost touch with both of them. I saw the notice too late to come to the services last weekend. I didn't know Marienne well as an adult, but she sounds like she was a wonderfully loving wife, mother, sister and friend. Through your words about her, her zest for life really came through. I am not sure how she died, but I pray she didn't suffer long. Please let Mrs. Penny, Diane and Roxanne know they are also in my thoughts and to have them contact me if they wish.

Dear Penny and Blanton Family,
I was friends with Marianne from Kindergarden to High School. She was the light of any room she was in. It was such a blessing to be her friend. If you were her friend and she had so very many, than you truly felt special, because Marianne was so very special! She brought such joy and happiness wherever she went. She truly glowed and radiated beauty in everyway. I also have fond and wonderful memories of her. She is someone I always looked up to and admired. I feel so lucky to have known her and to of had her as a friend.

Dear Penny Family,

Although I am saddened by the passing of Marianne it warms me greatly to see all the kind things written about her as it is exactly how I remember her. It has been many years since I have seen her but I can still feel her smile and remember she was the first girl I met upon moving to Houston. We had a lot of fun in the Junior High and High School days on Mossycup. She will be missed but always remembered.

Dear Bill, Julianne, Danielle, and Brooke,

I just heard the news about Marianne's death last night. The shock and pain I feel, I know, is nothing compared to that of your own. I am praying daily for all of you. I am so very sorry I didn't know before Saturday, so I could have been there. I loved Marianne dearly, and she was a one-of-a-kind friend to me. Girls, your mom was my best friend at Baylor. Rarely were we apart. I trusted no one more than her, and we ALWAYS had fun!. . .the talks, the mischief, the parties, the trips, the plans we made. We were PiPhi pledge sisters, and roommates for several years too. We were also in each other's wedding. Few friends in my life time have meant as much to me as her. Your mom was smart. She was unselfish, bold, giving, genuine, and she lit up a room with her smile. Bill, I know you miss her. Hold on to your faith, and let the Lord be the tower you run to. He won't let you down. Let me know how to get in touch with you, either phone or email. Love to you all. Jill Nolley Sandlin

Dear "Penny Girls":

My sisters and I are so sorry to learn of the loss of Marianne. We pass by Mossycup so many times over the last years and I still find myself looking for the bright orange front door on the corner house and think so fondly of Marianne. She was a great friend from elementary on through to high school and I know that her grace and good humor touched so many people and she will be missed. All of Marianne's family and friends are in our prayers.

Danielle, Julianne, and Brooke--
I only heard last night about your mom.
I was your mom's college roommate along with Jill Nolley our junior year at Baylor. We were also PiPhi pledge sisters. I wish you could have known her then. What a hoot she was and what a great friend. I am sure you can imagine! I have 2 girls 17 and 20 and cannot begin to know your hurt and how you must miss her. What lucky girls you are to have had such a wonderful mom to guide you. She was TRULY one of a kind. My family is praying for each of you and your dad.
Much love,

Sweet Blanton & Penny Families,
I just got a call tonight that you've just tragically lost Marianne. All through Baylor she was one of my favorites, in Pi Phi and KWBU. Even though it's been years since we'd connected I'll never forget what a precious, fun person she always was. I still have a framed photo of her, me & Ted Turner in our house back when cable tv & MTV first came to Waco. Please know you will all be in our continued thoughts and prayers during your time of sadness & grief. Our family is also very involved in Young Life, with our kids always going to camp in North Carolina, Georgia and Colorado. What a blessing her life must have been to so many people!
Much love and many prayers for you all!

My hearfelt prayers and sympathy to the Blantons and the Penny family. I immediately thought of a book I am reading called Heaven by Randy Alcorn. The complete satisfaction of being in Christ presence forever as a believer. The hope that we will be reunited with those we love in a New Heaven and New Earth is an unfathomable joy . I am challenged by Marianne's life that was "well lived" and will always remember her beautiful smile and person. Carol Greer Dodds

Marianne is a true treasure that God shared with us - how lucky we all are to have been a part of her life! Marianne made every day from kindergarten through high school so much fun, riding together from Mossycup all those years!! What I remember best though was the letter Marianne gave me after my mother went to Heaven when I was 16, it really comforted me. Marianne showed such a beautiful love to everyone and all you Penny girls (there are lots of you now) - get ready - because I'm sure she's helping Jesus plan lots of fun things for you and sending lots of special kisses and hugs to you all!

Dear Blanton Family,
I first met Marianne at C Creek Baptist Church in Boerne and later attended a womens retreat in Kerville with her. What a bright light and a love for life. She truly inspired me (as a newer Christian) to be myself and to want to know Jesus Christ in every way. I also had in common with her our love for animals.
She will be GREATLY missed but I know she is now standing by God's side ready to serve Him in everyway. She is home now and relishing in His love and glory. What a lucky lady... My prayers are with your family.

Please know that I was saddened to hear of Marianne's passing. I went to Memorial with her and can always remember her lighting up any room as she entered with a cheerful spirit and willingness to go the extra mile for any fellow "Mustang."
Each of you are in my thoughts and prayers, but we each take comfort in knowing that Marianne is in a far much better place resting peacefully with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bill,
I was very saddened to hear about Marianne's passing. She did indeed "shine" in her life. Marianne was a friend in high school and at Baylor. I know you and the girls will miss her terribly, but just remember that whenever the sun shines down upon you, Marianne will be warming your souls. God bless you all.

Dear Bill, Danielle, Brooke and Julianne:

We were all saddened to learn of the loss of your wife and Mom. We have fond memories of your warm, busy and open household as Marianne made the girl's friends welcome for sleep-overs, and just hanging out, during your time in Boerne. Please know that we are part of the many folks that offer up our prayers in thanksgiving for Marianne's "spirited" life here on earth and for Christ's peace and strength to each of you in the days to come.
