Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of Dr. Luna. His warmth and knowledge were familiar to all. Not only was Dr. Luna a source of vast medical knowledge, but he was happy and willing to impart it to others. He was a real Maestro and a true Gentleman, and he will be missed by everyone.

His jolly laugh and zest for life will certainly be missed by all of us.
The measure of a man is not so much determined by the extent of his accomplishments but by the number of hearts and minds he has touched along his journey.
Dr Mario Luna, has been one of the most influential and beloved teachers of hundreds of pathologists across the world and of most of the pathology residents and fellows who were fortunate, like myself and my son Tom, to train at MD Anderson.
Mario was not only a truly great man, an exemplary physician, an honorable and most admired pathologist, a beloved professor but, above all, he was a dear friend to so many people he touched with his warmth, charisma and devotion.
Our most fervent prayers for his Eternal Rest.

Dr. Luna was the type of person who always showed how much he cared! I recall him speaking to a patient and even though I could not understand the Spanish language you could see and feel the compassion he had for her. She cried to him and I remember him consoling her. It touched my heart to see how genuine he was! I remember when my step father passed w/ cancer…Dr. Luna was so kind to give me a hug and show me how much he cared about what I was going through! He was a wonderful man with so many kind words to offer!! He will be missed! God Bless Dr. Luna!

My acquaintance with Dr Luna is almost as long as his tenure at MD Anderson. Early in his career he chose not to teach or to profess his knowledge. Instead, he opted to share it with simplicity and without pretense or magisterial posture. For the academic community and for the medical profession at large, his death is not a loss it is an affirmation of a model behavior.
For his family, Mario Armando leaves the legacy of a probe life based on sincerity and generosity.
Para aquellos que comparten la expresividad de la lengua Castellana, bastan pocas palabras. El Doctor Luna fue una persona noble y un maestro de infinita generosidad. Conocer Mario Armando ha sido un privilegio y continuaremos a atesorar su bonhomía y espontánea simpatía. Damos gracias a Dios por habérnoslo concedido.

To the Luna Family my condolences. I met Dr. Luna at M. D. Anderson's Research Medical Library, 5 years ago and assisted him with library services. He was a very nice man. I frequently saw him in the hallways and he always greeted me with his pleasant smile. He was a great academic scholar in Pathology, he will be greatly missed.
