I'll miss our stories about you know who! You're at peace now, my friend. You'll be missed greatly.

Our buddy will be missed to no end! What fun memories we have of late night card games, a trip to the grocery store for a money order, getting a fish hook stuck in his finger and telling tall tales about who really caught the biggest fish. Fishing trips just won't be the same without Mr. Mark, but we know he will be close by laughing as the big one spits the hook out! You will forever live in our hearts - David, Michelle, Katie, Austin and Christie

Mark Akins to me was the complete embodyment of what it meant to be a Texan. Honest, straight forward, and willing to help a friend in any situation. I will always remeber some of the great nuggets of logic he would share with me; everything from how much starch should go on a pair of Wrangler jeans (they should stand up on their own), or why one should bet on a heavy dog when the track is muddy (its because the lighter dogs get more stuck in the mud).
Mark was one of the only people I felt I could call at anytime of the evening, or in any situation, and know that he was there for me. As a friend, you can ask for nothing more.
What I learned most from Mark is to be happy with who you are and make the most with what God gives you. Mark would often tell me that there were always people that were smarter and craftier than him, but he was simply willing to work harder than everyone else to get things done. This is why we always looked to him when the going got tough.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Mark and his family in this time of sorrow. I wish we could load up in his truck one more time, put on some country music, and look for some good times.

My thoughts go out to Mark's family and friends. I'll always remember his Texas style, humor, and friendliness. I remember when he purchased his jet ski and was ready to try it out. We planned a ride out at Point Loma where we were going to surf jump. We are all gathering in the parking lot and here comes Mark driving up in his blue dodge pickup playing his old classic country music and chewing tobacco. It was his first time out on the San Diego bay with his new ski. We headed out into the water and he looked comfortable riding the ski so we went out to the surf to jump some waves. We rode out to the surf and I gave him some pointers of how to ride the surf. On the first tall wave without letting go of the throttle he launched himself high into the ski straight up and never let go of the ski. My first thought is he must have rode bulls in Texas? When Mark landed in the water he shook off the water and was ready to go again.
We had some great times while he lived in San Diego. I am glad I was able to know him. He will be missed.

May God Bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. My thoughts and Prayers are with Mark and his family.
I did have the privilege of working with Mark for many years.
I will always remember the Deer hunting stories that we shared together. He would always talk about the Deer lease in Texas i would joke with him that the deer hunts in Texas was not really hunting. Going to the feeder to get them didn't count. I invited him to come to NM to hunt. He never wanted to said that he would have gotten lost in the mountains or that Iwould leave him there I will miss RED as that was what he was known by his hunting partners.

I'll always remember our trip to Baton Rouge - 5 hours in the car - we talked about everything under the sun. And always a comment about Aldine High vs. McArthur... I'll miss you, Mark - may God bring you peace.

My heart and prayers goes out to Mark's family during the time of their lost. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Mark at Fisher on an assignment in California in '05. From that day forth, I considered him my buddy and friend. I will never forget the Texas sayin' I picked up from Mark, "You ole 3 legged, finger tapping, Texas talking, Wrangler wearing, Big Truck driving, In and Out burger eatin''...." He will be greatly missed!!! With sadness in my heart.. Dana Bibbs

I will never eat at In and Out burger again without thinking of you.
Fair winds and following seas, my friend on your journey home.

My prayers and thoughts are with Mark, his family, and many friends at this difficult time. I have many fond memories of our time together at VWR and Fisher that will be with me forever. I will always remember our early morning work days that started off with a Mountain Dew, a Brownie, and a chew for the road as we trekked across Texas and Louisiana for long work days. Always riding in a new truck because Mark would always buy a new one before it needed its first oil change, well almost. Most of all I will always remember how much laughter and joy we all got from some crazy Mark(ism) that always had a little Texas twang to it. Best of all I remember when I brought Mark to San Diego from Texas and how much of a fish out of water he was when he first arrived! After a few months he started saying DUDE at the beginning of every sentence, bought a Jet Ski, and was going to the beach almost every weekend. Oh yeah and he discovered our one and only Country Western bar for a little bit of that home feeling. If I wasn’t sitting in Saudi Arabia right now where I can’t buy alcohol I would crack open a cheap beer, pop in a dip, and say cheers to a wonderful man who lived life to the fullest. You will be forever in our hearts and minds.
