Martha Fields Obituary

MARTHA ALLEN FIELDS, 54, left us to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Hermann Hospital in Houston. She was born in Temple, Texas, on January 12, 1953. Martha was the daughter of John R. and Dorothy Allen. Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 17, at the Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay in Houston. Arrangements are being handled by Earthman Funeral Home, Bellaire. A 1971 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, she attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a degree in education in 1975. She taught school for 24 years in Beeville, Bellaire and Fulshear, which includes many years at Condit Elementary School in Bellaire. Martha began her walk with the Lord at Glennwood United Methodist Church in Tyler, continued her walk at Bellaire United Methodist Church, and was currently a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Martha leaves a legacy as a devoted wife and mother as well as a gifted educator. An avid quilter, she exhibited her love through gifts handcrafted for others. A Maya Angelou quote on her desk, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel" was a testament to the many kindnesses she bestowed on family and friends. Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 29 years, Jim L. Fields of Fulshear; son, 1LT James Allen, United States Army; daughter, Laura Elizabeth Fields, of Houston; mother, Dorothy Allen of Tyler; brother, Scott Allen and wife Pansy, of Wilmington, Del, his children Emily and James of Austin; brothers-in-law Jack Fields and wife, Leslie, their children Dan and Jackie, of Houston; Dennis Fields and wife, Dorothy, their son Waylon, of Houston; Chester Fields and wife, Kathy, of Asheville, North Carolina. Martha was preceded in death by her father, John R., formerly of Tyler. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Hermman Hospital Shock/Trama and their many friends for their love and support during their trials. Memorials may be made to Texas Chidren's Hospital in support of the Children's Oncology Department, PO Box 300630 MC4-443, Houston, 77230-0630.

David and I still find tears in our eyes as we try to imagine your days. You were blessed to be a part of, or married to, one Angelic Lady that served her Lord daily. It was evident in the tone of her voice, the words she would choose, the tender touch of her hand, and the caring look in her eyes. She cared, and it showed.
We hope to visit with you as time passes and we will continue to pray for your peace in the midst of such a horrible, senseless, death.
Laura and Jay ... Your expression and presentation at your Mom's funeral was a testimonial to her life. NO ONE could have ever done a better job. I saw her sweet smile looking down on you and giving you strength. Stay close to your Dad. He will need lots of extra hugs now and forever.

My niece move to Fulshear last year. The first year in a new school was so hard for her. She would leave her class room crying on many occasions. Mrs. Fields was always there to comfort her. She would say "Oh, whats wrong with my little Claudia?" and she would hug her and sit with her until she felt better. She was Claudia's strength. She was her hero. Now Claudia, her sister Olivia and my sister Dawn drive by her house every day, leaving their house to go out of the subdivision - Claudia still says - "I miss Mrs. Fields so much".

Martha Allen Fields - She was a huge influence on so many people, especially all those little kids lives - She will be missed - she will be desperetly missed.

I remember Martha as loving, compassionate, and encouraging.
