Mary Jacobe Obituary

Mary Kate Jacobe
10/27/2016 - 07/04/2025
Mary Kathryn ("Mary Kate") Jacobe, age 8, a fifth generation Houstonian, passed away on Friday, the 4th of July 2025 in the tragic flooding that has affected so many. Mary Kate was born on the 27th of October 2016, in Houston. While her life was cut tragically short, she was a blessing to all who were fortunate to know her.

Mary Kate was tiny but mighty. She was born early and spent time in the NICU at Texas Children's Hospital, where the nurses were quick to point out, "this little one is feisty." Her "feistiness" was perfectly counterbalanced by her incredible sweetness from that point through the wonderful eight years she graced this world.

She was beautiful beyond words with soft hazel eyes, flowing long brunette hair, tiny frame and one-of-a-kind voice that seemed to sit in a register all her own. While she looked like the perfect model of angelic grace, her personality broke all molds. She never lost a battle of wits. She loved deeply. She charmed effortlessly.

Mary Kate had an ambitious vision for her future and planned to grow up to be a singer, actress, artist, and doctor amongst an ever-evolving list of lofty goals. While the world will never know what could have been, she undoubtedly would have continued to be the incredible, kind and confident person that was evident from the day she was born.

Mary Kate attended St. Martin's Episcopal preschool and then the Fay School from kindergarten through second grade. She was a fiercely loyal friend and always went above and beyond to stand up for any of her peers who needed support. She was her big brother, Russel's, best friend and his biggest fan. She was immeasurably confident beyond her years, marching to her own drum and transcending any social barriers to befriend everyone she knew.

Mary Kate was the cherished daughter of Samantha Jordan Jacobe and Christopher Craig Jacobe and the beloved sister of Russel Lee Jacobe. As the treasured baby of our large family she is also survived by a host of devoted family members including grandmother Brenda Craig Jacobe, grandfather Richard Jordan, Uncle Dr. Russel Lee Jacobe, III and wife Heidi, uncle Michael Copeman Jacobe and wife Mindy, aunt Janice Jacobe Davis and husband Clark, uncle Jon Paul Jordan and wife Tamara, uncle Justin Jordan and wife Maggie, along with devoted cousins Peyton Jacobe, Reid Jacobe, Sydney Jacobe, Jack Jacobe, Jacobe Davis, Clark "Cope" Davis, Cornelia "Cliff" Davis, J.P. Jordan, Kathryn Jordan, Josh Jordan, Lizzy Jordan, Jaden Jordan, great aunt Pam Burgin and husband Frank, great uncle Russell Jordan, great uncle Tony Felts, great uncle David Felts and wife Wendy, great aunt Val Fain and husband Tommy, great uncle Terry Felts and wife Johnette, great uncle Ronald Howard Jacobe and wife Sibyl, and numerous other loving members of the Jacobe and Jordan families as well as her precious puppies Rex and Pickles.

She is preceded in death by her loving grandmother and namesake Kathryn Jordan and doting grandfather Dr. Russel Lee Jacobe, Jr. who most certainly are embracing their angel.

The family will gather for a celebration of Mary Kate's life at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 15th of July, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road. All who were blessed to know her or touched by her beautiful spirit are welcome.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family invites anyone who wishes to help us keep her light shining through the Mary Kate Jacobe Charitable Gift Fund at https://sites.google.com/view/mkjcharitablegiftfund/home, which will be directed to charitable causes dear to her life and her family. You may also access a link to the Mary Kate Jacobe Charitable Gift Fund on her online memorial tribute page at www.GeoHLewis.com, where you may also leave memories or words of comfort her family.

While her life was cut tragically short, Mary Kate's legacy will endure through her family, friends and acts of kindness done in her name.

She is an angel in Heaven now. We are sad to see her go, but we will see her again. Gone from the earthly battle, but never forgotten. My heartfelt prayers go out to the family. Especially my brother in Christ, Richard Jordan. May The Lord wrap his loving arms around you all and hold you close during this time. Psalm 23

It is with a heavy heart that we remember our dear student, Mary Kate, whose smile could brighten any room. As her pre-k 3 teachers, we had the joy of watching Mary Kate learn, laugh, and grow each day. She brought a special light into our Gray Dolphin classroom, one that can never be replaced.
With love and prayers,

Sweet Mary Katherine and her precious brother Russell at the butterfly release this past May in Bell Park. We are creating a beautiful butterfly garden in her honor planting a white hydrangea tree, several angle wing plants and colorful native plants and flowers to grow and beautify this Monarch Way Station at south east corner of Bell Park. It will be an attractor for butterflies and a quiet place of reflection to honor her beautiful but brief life. We are so sorry for your loss and our hearts are breaking for your family.

Went to camp and enjoyed her young life with all her friends and camp member! She probably wouldn't have wanted her life to end any other way, than that of being in a place that she loved! RIP Mary!
