Mary Maher Obituary

Mary Anne Maher
1931-2014
Mary Anne Maher passed away peacefully on December 21, 2014. Mary Anne was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 2, 1931. She was the eldest of two children of the late George L. and Anne C. Lamberti.
Mary Anne grew up in Brooklyn, New York. On August 16, 1953, she married James ("Jim") J. Maher, Jr. (USAF, 1st Lieut.) also of Brooklyn, New York. Mary Anne and Jim had their first child, Kathleen, in Brooklyn and then moved to Houston, Texas, where they settled in 1955. They had another five children between 1956 and 1970. Even after nearly sixty years in Texas, she never lost her Brooklyn accent.
Mary Anne was a devoted daughter, wife, sister-in-law, aunt, mother of six, grandmother of nine, great-grandmother of three (soon to be four) and a friend to many. She was a leader in her neighborhood civic association, active in her church, a part-time school teacher, lifeguard, swim instructor, poker player, knitter, seamstress, chef, chauffer and family CEO and Crisis Manager. She was an avid reader and a very good bowler. Her husband, Jim, was active in the Houston Orchid Society and the Gulf Coast Homing Pigeon Association. Truth be told, however, Mary Anne was in charge of those endeavors, as well as every other one of Jim's many hobbies over the years. After Jim's retirement, he became interested in his Irish ancestry. So, predictably, Mary Anne took charge and made certain that Jim learned everything he could about his family, including making three trips to Ireland with him. Jim passed away on May 29, 2009.
Mary Anne is also preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, George T. ("Sonny") Lamberti. She is survived by her six children: Kathleen Maher Deakins, her husband Rich and their children, Jennifer and Kyle; James III; Patricia Maher Trigilio, her husband Frank and their children, Jake, Tanya, Wes, Tara and Frank IV; Elizabeth Maher Everett and her children, Brian and Eric; Michael Maher and his wife Julie; and Lori Maher Perez, her husband Rick and their children, Aimee, Nicholas, Sarah and Victoria. She is also survived by her niece, Eileen Burzo, of Brooklyn, her nephew, Thomas Lamberti, of Largo, Florida and her cousin, Patricia Lucia, of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 with a Mass at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 10727 Hartsook St., Houston, TX 77034. Graveside services will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
