Myron Blalock Obituary

MYRON GEER BLALOCK, JR., age 84, died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning, the 12th day of October 2005. Myron was born in Marshall, Texas on the 19th of August, 1921, to the late Colonel and Mrs. Myron Geer Blalock, Sr. After attending Marshall High School, he graduated from Kemper Military School in 1939. Myron received his B.A. from the University of Texas where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Myron was a major in the Air Corps and was stationed at Hickam Field/Pearl Harbor. After the war, in 1949, he received his law degree from the University of Texas and served as assistant district attorney in Houston. In 1951 Myron married his beloved wife of 54 years, Jen Collier Blalock and moved to Dallas to practice oil and gas law with Blalock, Lohman, and Blalock and after several years moved back to the Houston office. He was a devoted husband and father and he loved his Black Haw Farm in the piney woods of East Texas. Myron was a member of Houston Country Club, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the Houston Bar Association, and the Texas Bar Association; he was also a 32nd Degree Mason. Myron was preceded in death by his parents, and by his oldest sister Dorothy Blalock Campbell. He is survived by his devoted wife Jen Collier Blalock and by his son Myron Geer Blalock, III and wife Rosanna. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Myron Geer Blalock, IV and Holly Collier Blalock, and by his youngest sister Jodie Blalock Brelsford and many nieces and nephews. The family desires to extend its heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care of the professionals at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, M.D. Anderson Hospital and his devoted private caregivers. Mr. Blalock will lie in state from noon until six o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 13th of October in the Library of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive. The funeral service will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday the 14th of October, in the sanctuary of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston with the Rev. R. Lee McKinzie officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at Grange Hall Cemetery in Marshall, Texas at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 15th of October. The pallbearers are Dr. Bill Banks of Houston, John Bunten of Dallas, Scott Campbell of Longview, Bob Campbell of Longview, Julian Perry Hunnicutt of Houston, and Lewis Tarver of San Antonio. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, 10060 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, Texas, 77054.
