Nancy Pittman
09/07/1949 - 12/10/2024
Born on September 7, 1949, Nancy was the daughter of H.C. and Punkin Pittman. She lived in Austin until moving to Houston in 1971. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School, she attended The University of Texas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority (BS ’71) and The University of Houston (MPA ’91), graduating with highest honors from both.

Nancy was a member of the Social Sciences Department at Memorial High School (1972-1976) where she was named “Most Outstanding Teacher”. Following her teaching career, Nancy spent 20 years at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, eventually as the Director of Patient Care Programs. She then served as the Executive Director of the Brown Foundation, Inc. of Houston for 20 years until her retirement in December of 2017.

Nancy served as Chair of the Governor’s Commission for Women under Ann Richards and held leadership roles and was active in numerous organizations including Leadership Houston, Leadership Texas, The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, Planned Parenthood, the Houston Area Women’s’ Center, the Houston SPCA, the Health Law and Policy Institute, the Junior League of Houston, Discovery Green, the Greater Houston Women’s Foundations, and the Buffalo Bayou Coalition.

In addition to her family Nancy cherished her lifelong friends and adored her pets, especially her rescue dog Toffee. She long revered Queen Elizabeth II for her remarkable reign and perennially turned to Kermit the Frog for daily inspiration and cheer.

Preceded in death by her parents, Nancy is survived by her sister, Ann Hanna-Morrison, her nephew, Trent Hanna, and her nephew Todd Hanna, his wife Mari Allan, and their sons, Dillon and Andrew Hanna.

I have known Nancy since about 1980 when she was Department Administrator at MD Anderson and subsequently a high-level hospital administrator with Jim Cox. She was an amazing person whose heart and intuition were always in the right space. She was a true friend and dog-lover.
God speed, Nancy.

Ann and the Hanna family,

I am devastated. Nancy was a good friend and someone I admired beyond measure. I grew up in Austin, and those beautiful, smart Pittman girls were known to be coveted and admired by all! I will so miss Nancy.
