Nedra Escobedo Obituary

Nedra Gail Escobedo
1934-2015
Nedra Gail Becker Escobedo, 81, passed away September 18, 2015 in Houston, Texas surrounded by her loved ones. Nedra was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Charles and Thelma Becker on August 13, 1934. During her childhood and adolescence her family lived in Texas - Beaumont, Houston and Austin. She was thrilled to live with her family in Honolulu, Hawaii for her middle school years and able to return several times. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas in 1952 and went on to attend Texas Lutheran University in Sequin, Texas where she met and married Howard Woerner. They had four boys; Michael David, Gregg Allen John Bradley and Patrick Shane. In 1965 she married the love of her life, Ray Escobedo of La Porte, Texas. Together they made a final additional to their family, a daughter, Mary Rebecca Jeanne (Becky). November 13 of this year will be their Golden Anniversary. Nedra worked at Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas for 20 years, the majority of which was spent managing the attendance office. During this time she made many friendships with her student assistants, something that made her very happy. She was affectionately known as Mrs. E. Nedra was loved all. With her retirement came grandchildren and her new identity was born, "Mimi". Mimi was an ardent advocate of her grandchildren offering boundless and unconditional support; trips to the library, attending countless recitals, sporting games and livestock shows. Her daily absence has created a large void and her presence in our lives will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank all of her friends for their support over these last few months. Nedra is preceded in death by her parents Charles H. and Thelma Jane Becker and sister Cashatt. She is survived by her cherished husband Ray Escobedo, her children: Mike and Marcie Woerner, Gregg and Laurie Woerner, Brad and Cathy Woerner, Patrick and Emma Woerner, Becky and Terrence Kennedy. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lacey and Derek Randel, Tyler Woerner, Trent Woerner, Calli and Leo McCollough, April and Craig Spates, Jacob Woerner, Evan Kennedy, Alexander Kennedy and Kathryn Kennedy Pallbearers will be Terrence Kennedy, Tyler Woerner, Trent Woerner, Trace Woerner, Jacob Woerner, Derek Randel, Craig Spates and Leo McCullough. Great grandchildren are Kace, Kade and Kole Randel.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm, Monday, September 21, 2015 with a rosary to be recited at 6pm, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, Baytown. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baytown with graveside services to follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

I was fortunate enough to be a student assistant for Mrs. Escobedo back in the 80s. I'm fairly certain I have not laughed as much in my life as I did the semester I spent with her. Her humor and kindness made her such a special person whom I feel honored to have known. My prayers are with all of you during this time.

I would like to send my condolences to Ray and the family of Nedra Escobedo . I had the privilege to know this beautiful lady. Everytime I came in contact with her she always put a smile on my face . She was such a hoot always keeping me laughing . I'm gonna miss her. I know she will keep the good lord above laughing with her good sence of humor...R.I.P
