Dear Nonie,
You were born in the middle of all us siblings--so you were in a unique position to observe your brothers and sisters. You were both a big sister and a little sister, you were the baby, the middle child, or the eldest, depending on which one of us you were talking to--a firsthand course in power, its manifestations, and its uses. You saw all our strengths and weaknesses, you recognized everyone's foibles, you honed your observational skills on the antics of those surrounding you at home and at school, and eventually out in the working world. (And boy did you see a lot of foibles and antics!) But since you were a discreet and conservative person, those who relied on you always knew they were in safe and capable hands.
I am glad that YOU are now the one in safe and capable hands, glad you can move freely without pain, glad your worries are erased from your heart, glad you no longer need to work so hard, glad that you can rest.
But oh boy do I miss you, Nonie. I would give anything to have you back on this earth with your wise and curious self, able to go on an errand, or pick up the phone so that we could all talk or Zoom, or I could see you gather up your bag, car keys, dog and leash because well you'd "better get moving". And I know I'm not the only one....
Selfishly yours, xoxomary
