Ophelia Modesta Gonzales. Ramirez passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on September 15, 2016. She was born in Houston, Texas on February 24, 1930 to Eugenio Gonzales and Guadalupe Zermeno Gonzales. She was lovingly known as "Mom" or "Grandma" to all who met her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ignacio L. Ramirez, sister, Gloria Cardona, and brother, Raymond Gonzales, Sr. Ophelia is survived by her sisters, Mary Alice Gloria, Suzie Garza, and Minerva Gonzales, and sister-in-law, Mary Gonzales. She is also survived by 15 children and their spouses: Ignacio and Maria Ramirez, Theresa and Roosevelt Morales, Mary Alice and Miguel Martinez, Richard and Connie Ramirez, Michael and Pat Ramirez, John and Mary Ramirez, Margaret and Khosrow Askandari, Elizabeth and Anthony Petry, Marie and Robert Foerster, Anita and Ray Rodriguez, Albert Ramirez, Nancy and Michael Lara, Eugene and Maria Ramirez, Jeanette and Michael Gomez, Christina and Jose Latigo; 55 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.
Mom was a beloved wife to Ignacio for 59 years until his death. She set an example as a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring grandmother/great grandmother. She showed us how to love by her unconditional love for her sisters ("manitas"). She wanted her children to have a good education and wanted to instill in us our Catholic faith by sending us all to catholic schools, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Pius X High School and Incarnate Word Academy, for which we are very thankful.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 3:00PM to 6:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. Dearest Grandma,
Thank you to you and grandpa for showing us what family really means. As a child, I thought all families were like ours. I grew to realize they weren't and figured they were missing out, lol. Our family was unique and special and it's all because of you two. I'd speak proudly of my large Catholic family. I knew I wanted that, a tight loving family. John and I were blessed with 6 children. I'm not going to lie, I'd have a small panic attack with each positive pregnancy test, lol. What calmed me was you. You did it, raised 15 awesome people. I don't know how, but you did. Well, I do know...it was by the grace of God. You are the firm example of loving patience. I pray for that everyday. I'm honored to have made this year's birthday cake, and I expect to make many more to continue celebrating you. I love you.

My most sincere condolences to the Ramirez Family, may God give you peace and comfort during this difficult time. My prayers and blessing will be with you.

My dearest sympathies to the family of my dear friend Ophelia. I got to know her when we went to one hour of adoration on Wednesdays from 8-9 am at St. Theresa Church. The moments spent together in prayer and for tea at Panera strengthened our friendship. Through her stories I got to know her beautiful family. She has left a legacy of inclusive love. Even in the last weeks of her life when she was ill, she still remembered to order a cake for my birthday. I was so moved by her thoughtfulness and love. She reminded me of how she lived like our heavenly mother whose mantle of love covered everyone. Thank you my dearest friend for your great love. From heaven pray for us! Till we meet again!

To all my cousins and extended family, words cannot express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother. She was a true angel sent to bless this world with 15 wonderful children. She had a smile that would light up the room and her sweet soul was felt by all who knew her.
Many times in my life I have spoken to others of your family. How amazingly loving, sweet, kind-hearted, God loving, cousins I have. Obviously the works of a mother who loved and instilled faith in all her children.
She will be sorely missed by her best friend and sister Susie Garza. Over the last 20 years they talked on the phone nightly over family, current events, when and what time the Rockets and Texans were playing, the "who did what to who" over the latest Novelas. I remember my dad making a fuss for me to find a Telephone Co., that included all long distance. Because back in the days Cypress to Richmond was long distance on a land line. You can only imagine those bills, lol.
May peace be with all my dear cousins. Your mother and my dear Aunt was an outstanding Women of our world. God-Bless

Grandma, I love you. Thank you for everything. You have blessed our family tremendously. You've taught us how to love, have faith and be strong women. You taught us how to be good wives to our husbands. You are the reason I love fideo and a mayo, lettuce and ham sandwich. I feel blessed to have seen you everyday growing up while I went to St. Francis. I love you dearly. Thank you for loving my husband as one of your own. He loves you very much too. We will miss you. What brings me joy is that you are reunited with Grandpa Ramirez now. Until we meet again.
