Patricia "Patty" Bartlett Paine
11/15/1929 - 01/17/2025
Patricia "Patty" Bartlett Paine –devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and cherished friend– was called to heaven at the age of 95, on Friday, the 17th of January 2025, while surrounded by her loving children.
Mrs. Paine, Meemaw and Patty to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and as Patty to all who knew and loved her, was a shining example of beauty and grace, and the epitome of love and endurance. She took her first breath in Wichita Falls, Texas, and bade her last in Houston, Texas, a tribute to her lifelong bond with the state she called home, as a Sixth-Generation Texan.
Mrs. Paine was born Patricia Lee Bartlett on the 15th of November 1929, to Mattie Murphy Bartlett and Ernest Watson Bartlett. Mrs. Paine grew up with one brother, Ernest W Bartlett, Jr., and two sisters, Mary Ann Burst and Virginia "Ginny" Bartlett Williams.
When Mrs. Paine was a young child, her family moved to Houston, Texas, where she became a devoted Houstonian and would spend the remainder of her life. Mrs. Paine attended St. Anne Catholic School, St. Agnes Academy, and the University of Houston. It was as a child in grade school at St. Anne's that Mrs. Paine met Robert E. Paine III, not knowing that he would become the love of her life. Serendipity and the University of Houston would later bring them back together and they married on the 23rd of April 1949. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Paine were blessed to raise six children for the next 47 years, until Mr. Paine's death on the 18th of September 1996.
A devoted and loving mother, Mrs. Paine considered her family the greatest joy in her life. She cherished each and every one of us: her children, Robert E. Paine IV (Sara), Suzanne Marie Paine, Stephen Bartlett Paine (Janna), Mary "Mimi" Wilhelmina Paine, Alan Andrew Paine, and Laura Paine Gilbert (Grant); her grandchildren, Meredith Paine Dow (Luke), Robert Edward Paine V (Lauren), Robert Christopher Hubbard, Stephen Bartlett Paine, Jr. (Natalie), William Edward Paine (Sydney), Leanne Paine Rodiek (Jon), and Mimi Grace Gilbert; her great-grandchildren, Morgan Bartlett Stanford, Colton Vaughan Stanford, Griffin Paine Stanford, Hudson Robert Stanford, Robert "Seis" Edward Paine VI, Remington Marlin Paine, Rhett Eleanor Paine, Jennings Wilson Paine, Harper Jaye Paine, Lucas James Rodiek, Andrew William Rodiek, and Lucy Elizabeth Rodiek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Paine was a member of the Houston Racquet Club and the River Oaks Country Club, a former member of The Cluckers (an auction purchasing group for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo), and a former member of the Assistance League of Houston. She supported and gave back to Houston through her work with many Houston charities. Mrs. Paine was also notoriously known for being an enthusiastic and competitive member of multiple card playing groups (bridge, poker, etc.).
Mrs. Paine's lineage was born out of strength and love, as she was preceded in death by her parents, her only brother Ernest W. Bartlett, Jr., her sister Mary Ann Burst, her husband Robert E. Paine III, her daughter Mary "Mimi" Wilhelmina Paine, and her grandson Timothy Alan Wilkens, Jr. She is survived by her sister Ginny.
Mrs. Paine left a legacy of love that will continually be endowed in all that knew her. Her life of strength, resilience, and generosity will continue to live on through her surviving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Our family will forever be grateful to Maria Orellana for her many years of devotion to our mother. We love and thank you, Maria.
A memorial service in celebration of Mrs. Paine's life will be conducted at twelve noon in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Dr. in Houston, on Monday, the 27th of January 2025. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in Mrs. Paine's honor be directed to a charitable organization dear to your heart.
