Patrick Bishop Obituary

William Patrick Bishop
1942-2017
William Patrick Bishop died on July 9, 2017 at the age of 75 at St. Luke's Hospital. Patrick retired as an attorney at the Houston firm of Fulbright and Jaworski. He had formerly served as Editor in Chief of the Criminal Law Monthly. Patrick graduated from the University of Texas Law School, received a Masters Degree from Tulane University and a BA from Louisiana State University. He was born in Denver, CO.
Patrick was predeceased by his father, Major Ira Bishop, ret. and mother, Marian Bishop of Alexandria, La. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen of Bowie, MD; brother, David of Elkins, WV.
Patrick loved to travel, especially the backroads of America, seeking out battlefields from wars passed and in recent years, after discovering his father's passion for genealogy, documenting the cemeteries of ancestors from Canada to Texas. Although not a native Texan, Patrick developed a passion for everything Texas, perhaps catalyzed by love for Larry McMurtry and other Texas authors and it's colorful history. He especially wanted to return to Big Bend, a favorite park. Patrick often documented his travels by sending postcards to his numerous friends throughout the world. He was an avid reader and collector of books, loved movies, museums and the opera, and had a voracious appetite for the internet news of the day.
He has been cremated through the services of Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Houston, TX and is to be buried in Bedias, Grimes County, Texas. An informal gathering of friends to celebrate his life will be held at a future date. Donations in his name may be sent to the ACLU to further his passion for civil liberties. Patrick was a beloved member of the "Tulane Platonists," a group of five students from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and political thought. I remember best a day when some of the crypto-Marxists in the group were fantasizing about radical ventures, Patrick raised his hand and asked, 'What about human values?" Not a month goes by that I don't remember that simple question. Patrick was a gift of the highest value.
