Patrick O'Neill Obituary

PATRICK CYRIL O'NEILL
1944-2021
Patrick Cyril O'Neill, loving husband and father of three children and two grandsons, went home to God on March 24, 2021, at the age of 76.
Pat was born on May 10, 1944 to Irish immigrants Michael and Julia O'Neill. He was the youngest of four boys who grew up on Long Island, New York. Pat was a standout on the athletic field and graduated from St. Dominic's High School, in Oyster Bay, New York. He played football at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York and later proudly served our country in Vietnam from January 1968 until August 1969.
On August 21, 1971, he married Virginia Mary Walsh in East Rockaway, New York and they relocated to Houston in 1978. They raised two sons, Patrick and Sean, and one daughter, Meighan.
Pat had a passion for gardening, black labs, all sports and listening to the Gulf waters crash. He was known for teaching the fundamentals of sports to many youths throughout the area. His Irish wit, love of East Coast basketball, fantastic story telling and focus on faith and family will be missed. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important - living life with those you love.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, Michael, his mother, Julia, and his oldest brother Nicholas. He is survived by his loving wife Ginger; his three children, Patrick, Meighan and Sean; his daughter in law Holly; his grandsons Owen and Collin; his sister in law Patricia; his brother Michael and sister-in-law Una; his brother Kevin; his sister in law Barbara Walsh; their latest black lab, Fitz; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends stretching from the East Coast to the West Coast and across the pond.
A funeral mass on Long Island, New York and a burial at National Cemetery in Houston, Texas will be held at a later date.

Ginger:
From a ghost of your past, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. Losing a partner, lover and friend is one of the hardest experiences life has to offer. The only thing worse, in my opinion is to lose a child. I sincerely wish you the courage and means to carry on. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Should you wish to contact me, I’m on Facebook.

Pat was one of a kind and he will be missed by his beach community. The Saint Patrick day beach parties were legendary!
