I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the support and kind words during this difficult time. My mother was a wonderful woman who always enjoyed life to the fullest. Mom, I love you and miss you terribly.

My room was always far from RaeAnn's at Dulles so we didn't get to see each other very much but when we did, she always greeted me with a smile and asked about my boys. I will miss her shining personality and Viking spirit.

Ms. Markum and I never really knew each other. Whenever I would go to Ms. Smith's room, I would say hello, and she would smile and say hi back. She was a really nice person and I even signed up for her class next year. After reading through this book, it seems she will be missed terribly. Her family is in my prayers.. DHS will miss you..

I never had the opportunity to meet her personaly but from a distance she appeared to be nice. The year I took journalism (1997-1998), I took it from another teacher. From what I heard about her, the world has lost a nice person.

I had the great privilege of getting to know Ms. Markum, not just as a teacher, but as a friend my senior year at Dulles in 1994. She remains one of my favorite teachers to this day. She brought a spirit to our classroom not often seen in teachers. What a special, wonderful woman who certainly left those she touched saddened at her loss. We are all truly better people for having known her.

Ms. Markum was my Newspaper teacher for four years at Dulles. When I needed lunch money, she lent it to me. When I needed to talk, her door was always open; and when I felt like no one else understood me, she gave me a chance. Dulles has lost a wonderful teacher and a caring soul.

Rae Ann,
You've made it! And the rest of us are still trying...... It was a comfort to know you were just a phone call away and the problems of the world (and ours) were always resolved before we hung up.
We are planting a Bougainvillea in the yard for you. You loved them but always managed to kill yours dead. So, enjoy watching it grow. It's in 'full sun' just like your disposition.
Who knew our Thanksgiving at your house would be our last? You will forever be in our hearts. We love you and will never forget you.

It was my honor to be one of Ms. Markum's students. During high school I wasn't very confident in my abilities, but Ms. Markum never allowed me to put myself down. I hope she knows how much I appreciate her and how much she will be missed. God bless.

When I first heard the news of this untimely event my world stopped. Jonathan your mother was not only my collegue, but she was my PALS instructor during my heyday as a Dulles Viking student. When I was down in the dumps she encouraged me. She taught me not to give up despite the negativity. I will never forget the countless recommendation letters she wrote for me. I only hope to be as encouraging, loving, and supportive as she was to all who knew her. She is going to be missed. In my eyes she is FAMILY and for that I am blessed to have been in her presence. --God Bless you and your family!

Ms. Markum,
For the short time I knew you, you were always so nice to me and always had a smile on your face. I did always enjoy being on your Newspaper staff at Dulles, no matter how stressful it was :-). I'd also like to thank you for introducing me to photography because now it has become my carrer choice. I will always remember you for that. You are in a better place now with your husband and you will be sorely missed.

Mrs.Markum was an amazing teacher and i am glad i got to have her for the past two years. I was fortunate enough to talk to her before her passing. I had surgery and she was very worried. I finally got a hold of her and we talked for a little bit. I will cherish that conversation that we had. I will remember her forever. She will be missed.

Mrs.Markum was an amazing journalism teacher. I was fortunate enough to have talked to her a few days before passing away. I had surgery before spring break and she was very worried. She had called and when we tried calling back she didn't answer. That afternoon she called and i was able to talk to her. I will cherish the time that I was able to talk to her, and remember her forever.

To Rae Ann’s son:
I have known your mother since 1984, and in all that time, I have never known her to say a negative word about anyone. She was always a positive force, radiating goodness and light, and I know you are proud of her. She will be missed.

Mrs. Markum was one of my all time favorite teachers. I treasure the memories that I made in her class, and fondly remember what special, loving person she was. I remember a smile was always on her face and warm hugs were always available for her friends. I will truly miss her, and I'm so glad I was blessed with having her in my life.

A fond memory of the little Curly haired girl, always cute as a button.
Don't think of her as gone away,
her life is just begun
Life has many facets, this is only one
Some day in the future her life again we'll touch, meantime we have her memory, for Rae Ann is loved so much.

Dear Rae Ann,
The memory of you will be a happy one.
You leave an afterglow of smiles, now that life is done,
An echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy, laughing times, and sunny days.
Our tears of grief will dry before the sun,
Of happy, loving memories now that life is done.
