Ray Lacour Obituary

The last day of 2008, our beloved husband and father, RAY W. LACOUR passed unexpectedly, without suffering, from this earthly life to an ever-lasting one. Born in Gueydan, LA Mar 1, 1933, Ray was raised in Lake Arthur, LA. As a teen he moved to Houston and made it his permanent home. After excelling at St. Thomas High School, Ray served 2 years in the Marines and then received his B.S. in accounting from U of H. Upon graduation, Ray was employed by Mattison & Requelmy Accounting; he earned his CPA certificate in 1957; became a partner; and faithfully served his clients for more than 50 years. Ray's varied interests included travel, reading, hunting, golf, electronics, piloting, photography, raising cattle, family sailboat racing, presiding as commodore of Seabrook Sailing Club, studying astronomy & physics, enjoying all kinds of music, especially opera; and serving 11 years as Treasurer to his church. His greatest treasure however was his wife of 54 years whom he met on a blind date. Preceded in death by his father, Ray and his widowed mother Rose, whom he cherished. Survived by his devoted wife Marilyn and his brother Gabe and wife Phinny. Blessed with 3 daughters and their husbands; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson: Debbie & John Focke (Elaine, Eva);Diane & Dan Stell (Jay, Jessica, Lindsey, great-grandson Andrew); Linda & Ron Hobar (Heather, Kyle, Ashley). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ray and Marilyn's home church, St. Philip's United Methodist. Visitation: Jan 4, 4-6 PM Wharton Funeral Home (515 E. Boling Hwy/Wharton, TX 77488). Memorial Service: Jan 5, 10 AM St. Philip's United Methodist Church (5501 Beechnut Blvd/Houston, TX 77096).
