Richard Brown Obituary

Richard Brown
12/07/1947 - 08/29/2024
Richard Wade Brown died August 29, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born December 7, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to Victor Louis Brown and Bertha Houston Brown. His parents moved to Mercedes, Texas, when he was a small boy, and he grew up there as their only child. Richard attended Mercedes public schools, graduating from high school in 1966. During high school, he played tuba in the school band, and he played guitar in a rock and roll band that performed in various venues.

Richard attended the University of Houston, served in the U.S. Army 1969-71, and worked at Methodist Hospital in Houston for 29 years. He married Nancy Jean Hoffman in 1967, and their son, Steve, was born in 1971. The three of them moved to Missouri City, Texas, in 1975, where Richard and Nancy continued to live after Steve left home. Richard had several hobbies, including playing guitar (with one of his high school band mates and others, he performed around the Houston area), model railroading (he had an extensive layout of S gauge track and running stock, with landscaping suggesting the Rio Grande Valley), and rebuilding old British sports cars (including Triumph TR4, MGA, and MGB). He enjoyed hunting, particularly birds, and made annual trips to the Rio Grande Valley for opening days of white wing dove season. Son, Steve, and several of Steve's friends, accompanied him on these trips beginning around 1980; retelling of their adventures may continue for generations.

Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Steve; daughter-in-law, Kelley; and granddaughters, Ella and Audrey. Private services will be held at a later date.

Dear family,

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. May God give you comfort during this very difficult time. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as God brought his son Jesus Christ back to life, he will do the same for your loved one as he has promised.

The Class of 1965, Mercedes High School send their love, prayers and sympathy to Nancy and her family. Richard was a great person and will be greatly missed at our reunions. He was always happy to see and visit with old friends. Nancy and Richard were always great supporters of our Class.
