ROBERT FULWEBER Obituary

DR. ROBERT CYRIL FULWEBER passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 23rd of December 2009, in Houston, Texas. He was 71.Bob was born in Ravenna, Ohio on August 26, 1938 to Cyril and Florence Fulweber. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1960 and obtained his medical degree from the University of Florida in 1964. Bob was a Captain in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, serving his country in Vietnam.After an honorable discharge, Bob began a long and distinguished career as a well respected and loved cardiologist serving his entire career at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. Bob was a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine, and a member of various medical societies. Away from the hospital, Bob loved the outdoors, especially enjoying hunting, fishing and growing roses in Galveston and orchids in Houston.Bob is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Nan Jackson Fulweber; four children and their spouses, Terri and David Morrison of Austin, Karen and Stephen Lee, James and Seliece Fulweber, and Michael and Erin Fulweber, all of Houston; thirteen grandchildren, Wade Jackson, Jacob Robert, Mary Catherine Raymond, David Hudson and Elizabeth Anne Morrison, Stephen Howard, Robert Whitmel and Elizabeth Addison Lee, Ava Marlane and James Adair Fulweber, Allie Lauren and Kirk Charles Thompson, and Jackson Monroe Fulweber; four siblings, Rita Malfait, Lois and Bob Waples, Joseph and Marilyn Fulweber and Arthur Fulweber; and countless friends and patients. Bob's generosity, integrity and devotion to his family, friends and patients will be greatly missed.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and other caregivers at The Methodist Hospital who lovingly cared for Bob and his entire family in his final months. The Methodist Hospital Family's love and devotion to Bob and his family was an inspiration to us all.Yesterday evening, friends gathered for a visitation with the family at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.A memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock this afternoon, Monday, the 28th of December, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where Dr. Jim Jackson, Senior Pastor, will officiate.Immediately following the memorial service, all are invited to join the family at a reception to be held in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.For those so desiring, contributions can be made in Bob's honor to the American Heart Association Memorial/Tributes, P.O. I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I first knew him as my Dad's cardiologist, then as a colleague and friend in my years at The Methodist Hospital developing the heart-lung and then lung transplant programs. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
