Robert Vickers Obituary

ROBERT LEE VICKERS, born in Hermansville, Michigan, on July 23, 1929 to Esther and Verne Vickers, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009. Bob attended San Jacinto High School and graduated in the class of 1948, where he was a 4 year varsity baseball pitcher. At the University of Houston, Bob continued his baseball career, pitching 4 years for the Cougars and receiving several offers to play professional baseball. Bob received his degree in business administration from UH, and after a two year stint in the U.S. Navy, went on to get his law degree at South Texas College of Law and practiced law in Houston for over 40 years. Bob was interested and involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an energetic project person, builder and inventor. He loved to travel and cook and delighted friends and family in an ever-expanding repertoire of recipes inspired by the places he had been to, particularly European cuisine. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Inga, his four children, Lynn Hunt and her husband, Gary, Lee and his wife Eileen, Kate Romain and her husband Pierre-Yves, and Nora McMordie and her husband Pete, and by twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his sister, May Quinton and her husband, Bryce, his brother, Bill and his wife, Barbara, and his sister, Wanda King and her husband, Elton. Bob's humble spirit and generosity influenced, touched and enriched many lives over the years. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1101 Bering Drive in Houston on Saturday, March 21 at 2 o'clock pm. My condolences to all of the Vickers clan. As Alison Anderson mentioned, the scavenger hunts and the raw egg toss at the joint Easter parties, bring great memories to me. I enjoyed Bob helping me with pitching when I was learning to play baseball.

Oyster bisque, skiing in Gunnison, helping David, always a source for cooking tips, master of his kitchen, playing pitch with my boys. A friend. A force. Best son, ever, when I think of the cats. All love to the Vickers family, extended family and friends. Bob will live on in our memories and our stories.
Love, Sharon

My condolences to all of the Vickers (and Mears - it always seemed like one big family down there at the end of the dusty, red gravel road to the rest of us in our wonderful neighborhood. The scavenger hunts and the raw egg toss at the joint Easter parties, the shared trampoline between your two houses. . .)
My thoughts are with Mrs. Vickers, especially, as well as Lyn, Lee, Kate and Nora. I hope it's been, and will continue to be, a great comfort to your family to have Nora and Pete and their children living right there with on Pifer as well. Your old neighborhood friends are thinking of you all. . . Allison Anderson

Bob was such a gem, from his many talents warm demeanor to his love for animals. My deepest sympathy. I will be unable to attend the service as I will be in the UK but please know I am thinking of the entire Vicker's clan. Love, Susanne
