To my cousins and their families, our deepest sympathies. I'm sitting here thinking about Tia. Eusebio and I will always remember going thru Houston and stopping at the bakery. She was never too busy to visit, always wanted to know how we and everyone else was doing, and never let us leave without eating or let us go before giving us several bags of bread to take! I'm sure her generous nature touched everyone she knew. We will miss her.

Melinda & Family,
During this time of loss remember the Lord will call each of us home so that we might spend eternity in His glory. Your mother has gone to be with her Lord. May you find peace in this knowledge. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,

Dear Melinda and Family,
Melinda I am very saddened to hear of your mom having passed away. Mrs. Porras was a compassionate and fine businesswoman. I remember when I would arrive at your house; the one thing your mom would always say to us before we would leave for the evening was "You girls be careful". And we were careful. May our Lord comfort you and your family at this time.

The Serenity Prayer
GOD, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living ONE DAY AT A TIME;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the
pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy
in this life,
and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
Amen

Melinda, James & Family: I was fortunate enough to meet your mom several years ago. She was a courageous, warm, gentlewoman and I knew right away I was in the presence of someone special. She will be remembered by all those whose paths she crossed.

We offer our condolences to James, Hector, Rene, Melinda, and Melissa and their families.
Years ago I told Tia Ruperta how much I liked Tio Manuel’s paintings and she never forgot. One day James delivered to me a beautiful gift that Tia had sent and it now hangs in our family room. Of course, it’s even more precious now.
It was only four weeks ago that I was thanking her for sending me the painting and she said she had been looking for me to check up on James to see if he had delivered it.
We will miss her very much.

We will always remember our Tia for her graciousness when we visited her, and when she visited my parents in Gonzales. She sent me, from Utah, one of the first gifts I ever received in the mail (in the 50's): a cookie press set. To this day I still collect presses, cookie cutters and cookie jars. What a wonderful and thoughtful gift she gave me! I remember our last visit in Houston and how we talked about her interests and collections. She was truly a remarkable woman, one to be admired because she persevered despite her long-standing health problems. Our love and prayers go out to our cousins.

It seems that this obituary in this newspaper does not begin to describe how special Roberta Porras was to us. I will always treasure our friendship. She has embraced me into her family for as long as I have known Melinda from college. Last year, we went gambling and to Laredo. Her blindness worried me but her strength and poise and sense of adventure amazed me. I will miss her and I pray that she is with her Lord and Savior in perfection.
