Robin Rogers Ivie

Robin Ivie Obituary

ROBIN ROGERS IVIE, loving husband and father, passed away July 19, 2008 in Houston, Texas after a surgical battle with an aortic aneurysm. Rob fought for 24 hours longer than any doctor expected because his spirit and love of life were so strong. He was born June 1, 1960 to parents Shirley Dawn and Jerry Clark Ivie. Rob and his wife, Nella, were married for 25 years and were truly the loves of each others' lives. He was not only an amazing father, but also his sons' best friend and a brother's role model. He surrounded his family and friends with love, warmth, trust, generosity, humor, and countless special memories that will live on forever. Robin was a 1978 graduate of Lee High School of Houston, graduated from Texas Christian University with a journalism degree, and was a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. While developing his own successful career in the insurance business, Rob always took the time to guide young professionals in their own career paths. His gift of patience and teaching is one that will never be forgotten. Rob will always be remembered for his love of life. He loved the sun and the beach, cooking, cocktails, eating fine foods, golf, Las Vegas and spending time with family and friends. His casual and easy going style made his life a fun adventure and gave pleasure to all who knew him. Although Rob will be terribly missed and his absence here on earth will leave a void in so many lives, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. They will find peace and comfort knowing that he will be welcomed in Heaven by God. He is survived by his loving family, wife Nella Whiteford Ivie and two sons Andrew Clark and Justin Theodore, his sister Kim Ivie Bossung and her husband David, his brother Christopher Charles Ivie, and nieces and nephews Ashley, Kristen, Ted, Amy, Emily and Nicole. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Dawn Ivie. Memorial services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, TX 77042-2999 at 2:00 pm on Tuesday July 22, 2008. Robin will be laid to rest at Forest Park Westheimer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, Development Department, 1400 La Concha Lane, Houston, Texas 77054.

Nella, Andrew and Justin, our prayers are with you in your sorrow and hope you will be strong knowing that God has a better plan for Rob. I just got word today about this tragedy and perhaps you'll find some comfort and strength knowing that people are talking about Rob and reminding others of Rob's importance in our lives. I cannot imagine your life without your best friend.

Rob and I spoke every now and then and we'd compare notes about sons in college. I know his bond with you and the boys was solid and that you were always first in his life. Beyond that, he never forgot others, and me in particular. I will forever be grateful for his friendship, loyalty, help and encouragement.

Dear Ivie Family,
I was very shocked and saddened to hear the news of Rob's passing from Howard Block. I worked in sales under Rob at NAHP. I worked in Houston while he was in Buffalo. (and I moved to Houston b/c Rob convinced me it was the best place on earth.) I want you to know how much he loved you all. He talked about his wife and boys all the time- not to mention his love for Houston, TX. My sincere condolences to you.

Nella,

There will come a time to celebrate the fact that Rob is now sitting in Heaven next to our Savior. He is suffering no longer and at this very moment, looking down on you and the boys. He wishes he was there but knows that someday, you will be together again.

You and Rob hold a very special place in my heart and I promise never to forget.

Your old friend, Steve Becker

It has taken me a couple of days to get my thoughts together after the shock I experienced when I heard the news of Rob's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing Rob for almost 20 years and consider him a very close friend and one of the finest individuals I have known. He will always be in my mind as will you guys. We were deeply sadden to hear of Rob's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ivie family.
Although I was not a Lamda Chi, nor did I attend TCU, I met Rob through his fraternity brothers. I now know why they refer to each other as "brothers". The emotion I feel as I write this note is as if a family member and brother passed.
Rob always made me feel welcome at whatever function (code word for a gahtering of Lamda Chi/TCU friends and family with food and adult beverages) and asked how "I" was and what "my" family was up to. It wasn't about him, he made me feel as though it was all about me. He east-going and warm nature will be missed.
