Roy Ames Obituary

ROY C. AMES has passed away at the age of 66. He is survived by five brothers and sisters. Roy moved to Houston in 1959 and got a job as the branch manager for King Records. Throughout the '60s he worked for Duke-Peacock Records and Motown before starting his own series of labels. In the process, he managed the careers of Johnny & Edgar Winter and Isaac Payton Sweat. His recorded output included such greats as T-Bone Walker, Clifton Chenier, Arnett Cobb, and many others. He helped bring the musical legacy of Texas to an international audience. In lieu of services, he will be cremated and his ashed dispersed at sea.

Great Guy! Was a pleasure to have known him. Had a great eye for spotting and nurturing young talent. Not to mention a great film collection in the days when home cinema was a rare luxury.
