Ruth Karau Obituary

RUTH MAZIE KARAU of Houston died March 4th at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was a 1956 graduate of Penn State University and was married 40 years to her high school sweetheart Bill, who preceded her in death in August of 1996. Their early-married years were spent in Alabama, Texas, and Pennsylvania while Mazie taught school and Bill served in the US Army. They were transferred to Houston in 1972 and became charter members of Hosanna Lutheran Church. Mazie spent the last 35 years as a homemaker, mother and grandmother and will be remembered as a gracious lady and wonderful friend to those who had the good fortune to meet her. She is survived by children Lynn Bruley, Lori (Francois) Decoppet, Lisa (Jeff) Dickey, Bill (Robyn) Karau and Leslie (Carl) Degner and by grandchildren Trisha, Amanda, Heather. Louise, Emilie, Sophie, Ashley, Joe, Gus, Kate and Ivan. A family-only viewing will be held at Klein Funeral Home on Sunday, March 6th. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 7th at Hosanna Lutheran Church. in lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Hosanna Lutheran Church, 16526 Ella Blvd. or to Houston Hospice. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and friends who helped Mazie during the long course of her cancer treatment. "Do not weep for me as I have been set free, my earthly pain is no more ... I am heaven bound."

I always thought of Mazie as an angel on Earth. She is without a doubt one of the most kind and gentle people that I have ever met. My heart goes out to the family..... She will be missed.
