Sachi MADOKORO Obituary

MADOKORO, Sachi Mary
March 19, 1923 - April 27, 2014
Sachi was born in Prince Rupert to Kumataro and Setsu Tsumura, a boat-building family. Like other Japanese-Canadians of her generation, she was uprooted from her home and relocated to a ghost town in the Slocan Valley, events which shaped her life but never embittered her. After the War, she moved with her family in Meaford, Ontario where she met her future husband, Thomas. They returned to the West Coast in 1951, eventually settling in Delta. Sachi was always surrounded by a houseful of kids including many special neighbourhood children whom she treated like family. She loved sewing and knitting, cheering on the Canucks, and she was a lousy bowler. She had a wide circle of close friends. She was a good person and made a difference. Sachi is survived by her husband, Thomas, and her children: Wanda, Darby (Pat), Linda (Rob), Ellen (Bill), Beth (Gord), and Marc (Nadia); grandchildren: Trevor, Brent, Rachel (Kyle), Beckie (Peter), Asia (Tyler), Larissa, Aidan, and Marcus, and great- grandchildren: Ethan, Holden and Ella. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff at Northcrest who went above and beyond to make Sachi's final years comfortable and dignified. No service, but a Celebration of Life for family and friends at the family home on Sunday, May 25 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Sachi (and Thomas) were a big part of our family. I'll always remember her smiling face and I loved to make her laugh. She loved sewing, the horse races, the slots, a good ( but weak) rum and coke and scratchers. She was a good friend to my parents and I am absolutely positive that Sachi and my mom, Joy, are once again busy playing the slots with each other trying to win " the big one" I miss them both.

Thomas & Family
One of those neighborhood kids who is now a senior. We lived on the street and enjoyed Sachi's kindness. In later years I got to meet with her for lunch a few times-Always enjoyable. Many condolences to her family. She will be missed. Donna Evans {Johnson}
