SAMMY HABEEB Obituary

SAMMY HABEEB, a life long Houstonian, passed away on November 18, 2009, at the age of 83. He was born on May 17, 1926, in Palestine, Texas to Albert and Pauline Habeeb. He was an avid traveler, fisherman and hunter until his health would no longer allow him to enjoy the things he liked to do best. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II, and was honorably discharged in April, 1946.He was a Master Mason for over 50 years, in the Grand Lodge of Texas, Park Place No. 1172, Jacques DeMolay No. 1390 and Howard Lodge No. 69. He earned his 32nd Degree Mason, KCCH, in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was a member of the Knights Templar of Texas, Park Place No. 106. He was also a member of the Arabia Shrine Temple.He was a Lifetime Director of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, and a Diplomat on the International Committee, and a member of the Tejas Vaqueros. He was a life member of the 100 Club of Houston and a supporter of many other local charities.Sammy is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Paula Habeeb of Houston, and Debra Higginbotham and the Honorable Don Higginbotham of Georgetown, Texas. He is also survived by his longtime companion, who has stood by his side in all that he has endured. He also leaves behind a legion of friends and cousins. He will be sorely missed at breakfast at the Fountain View Café.The family wish to thank the CCU staff at St. Luke's Hospital and Vitas Hospice, as well as his long time cardiologists, Dr. Nadim Nasir and Dr. John Passmore.A visitation for Sammy will be at 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Friday at Earthman Hunters Creek, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024.The funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Earthman Hunters Creek. Interment for the family will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.For those desiring, the family requests contributions in Sammy's name be made to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Scholarship Fund or the American Heart Association.
