The family of Samuel I. Shuman is saddened to announce his passing on May 31, 2023, in Houston, Texas. He was attended by his wife Gordana who provided loving support as Sam's health declined. Born August 7, 1925, in Fall River, Massachusetts, and following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1944, Sam was a Fulbright Fellow and earned graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (Doctor of Philosophy), the University of Michigan (Juris Doctor), and Harvard University (Scientiae Juridicae Doctor). Sam was a wonderful father to his sons Maxim and Michael who he had with his former wife Maria. Following a 30-year distinguished career as a professor of law and professor of forensic psychiatry at Wayne State University and Medical School, Sam retired to Houston where he found a second career in the arts as a partner in a gallery specializing in modern masters and as director of the Texas Modern Art Foundation. In his later years, Sam enjoyed international travel, musical concerts, and most of all the company of his family. He is mourned by his wife Gordana, sons Maxim and Michael, daughter-in-law Bilyana, grandchildren Milla and Alexander, and his loving friends. Sam will be remembered for his selflessness, his devotion to family, and his ever-present sense of humor.
