Sandy Rainer went to be with the Lord at age 79 on January 30, 2018. She passed away peacefully after courageously battling numerous illnesses for several years.
Born December 2, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Alberta Pitts Corey, she was the oldest of three children. Sandy was 12 years old when the family moved to Houston. After receiving her bachelor's from Sam Houston State University, Sandy became a physical education instructor and coached basketball and track. Sandy was always incredibly athletic, eventually branching to fishing and golfing. She was one of America's first Bass-n-Gals, the first professional fishing league for women, and won several national tournaments. Many people will remember her as the artist who painted on driftwood. Sandy was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Sandy is survived by her loving partner of 46 years, Geraldine (Gerri) Frasier, her brother and sister in law (Kenneth and Carole Corey), her sister and brother in law (Gail and Bob White), her daughter and son in law (Sheryl and Glenn Higdon), and grandchildren (Kenneth Rainer, Lucas Higdon, Maegen Patzold, and Jesseca Patzold).
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018, 1:30 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Dan Jones. Sandy was very passionate and strong-willed throughout her life and was a very generous and loving person. She will be missed by all.
