To my family & those who have had a chance to know my cousin Steve: I enjoy the clear honor of being related to this highly accomplished scholar, accomplished musician, intelligent, clever, witty human and devoted father and cousin. I have many role models in my life, Steve is a primary. His wisdom and love has influenced me greatly. He achieved so many things in his mortal form giving me much to brag about.
As a boy in my teens I stayed with my grandmother as often as time permitted . Steve, knowing she was suffering the lost of our grandfather gave her a book - Jonathan Livingston Seagull. At the time I was not much of a reader but I read that book ambitiously as Steve, a scholar, purposefully gave it to our grandmother. This gift´s intent would only be unlocked by reading it myself: In it the creature, Johnathan, saw beyond the limits of seagulls to which it was born. Mainly flight. He saw other creatures who flew at high altitudes, very fast and graceful. He mastered these qualities morphing into an animal far more beautiful than a clumsy seagull. His own death from crashing into rocks was just another metamorphosis for him advancing his status to flying among very noble creatures exempt from the flaws and limits of mortal seagulls.
I am so grateful to have known my cousin when he was just an highly advanced human. If Steve has taught me anything - I believe he has advanced to be free of issues simple humans struggle with. He now sores high and gracefully, observing us clumsy humans. Recently I enjoyed an exclusive window of time with Steve. It turned out to be our final meal together for a while. It was highly peppered with his great excitement for the arrival of his grandchild. This child will get to learn what a wonderful grandfather Steve is & like me, learn many things from this mutual loved role model.
