Steven Natenberg Obituary

Steven R. Natenberg
1950-2021
Steven R. Natenberg of Spring, Texas passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Steve was born May 2, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Skokie by his cherished mother and father Evelyn and Philip Natenberg. Steve was married for 48 years to Sharon Haimes Natenberg and they raised three wonderful children David and wife Ellie, Michael and wife Cara, and Ellen Thompson and husband Ryan. Steve's great delight was his four granddaughters, Laila, Mia, Sybil, and Parker who knew him as Papa. The whole family is saddened that he will not meet his soon-to-be-born grandson.
Steve and Sharon met at Purdue University where Steve earned a BS in Industrial Management. He continued his education with an MBA from DePaul University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa. He worked for Shell Oil Company for 32 1/2 years and later as an adjunct professor in the Bauer College of Business. He was an enthusiastic supporter of all his children's endeavors. Steve had many friends not only from Shell but from high school, college, the neighborhood and his temple. His newest passion was pickleball. He and Sharon also enjoyed traveling with his sister Gwen and husband Howard Cooper and the "Tribe", a group of close college friends. His advice was always sound and his opinions fair.
Visitation and fellowship will begin at Congregation Jewish Community North located at 5400 Fellowship Ln. Spring, TX at 1:30 pm on October 1st followed by a memorial service starting at 2:30 pm. A graveside service will be held at Forest Park The Woodlands at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to The Barbara Bush Library Friends in honor of his work with the adult literacy program or Congregation Jewish Community North.

Just learned of Mr. Natenberg's passing yesterday and was floored to get that news. As his insurance agent, I had spoken with him recently and he sounded terrific. We would talk maybe 2x per year but the conversations would quickly turn to life in general. Boy will I miss that. What a gentleman. Rest easy Steve, my pleasure to have known you.

Just heard about this from Dan Schonberg. I am sorely grieved to learn about the passing of an old college brother. We will continue to tell "Steve Natenberg stories" until all of us are gone. My best to Sharon and Steve's family.

I just found out about Steve´s passing. Wow what a great man, fantastic lawyer and wonderful friend. I always called Steve my lawyer when working with the Shell Motorist Club. He always was teaching me the legal ins and outs of the business. He was my mentor ... an enormous human being. Sharon, I am thinking of you and your family. All of you will be in my prayers.

I was saddened to hear or Steve´s sudden passing. I had the privilege of working with Steve on many occasions and he was always helpful, thorough and personable. A true professional. He always talked about his family and I always looked forward to seeing him and catching up. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and I know we will all miss his positive influence.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Steve was always a fun and dedicated friend and business consultant during the days we worked together within the credit card division in Shell. I remember many moments of fun and candid conversations.
My prayers and thoughts to the family and to Steve as well for being in a better place. Thank you Steve for all that you gave to me.

The hardest thing about grief is taking the pause & realizing how much that person meant to so many people. I´m so sad that I won´t see Steve at our big family gatherings. He had such an amazing presence. He was the kind of father that wanted the best for everyone. I will truly miss his authenticity & kindness. My favorite memories of Ellie and Dave´s beautiful wedding and the joy he always brought to Laila & Mia´s face when he was around. My deepest condolences to the rest of the Natenberg family. Sending you love and prayers during this time.

From our first Shell Laurel Society Award trip to San Francisco in 1976 to the many personal and professional dealings we had thereafter, I realized that Steve was one of those 'special people' who is a privilege to have known. RIP Steve and prayers and condolences to Sharon and the family.

I am overwhelmed with sadness. Steve was a great guy within and without Shell. One of the few fellow Jewish employees I knew at Shell. My condolences to entire Natenberg Family.
