Susan Bateman
February 12, 1940 - May 30, 2022
Susan Smith Bateman of Houston, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 30, 2022. Susan loved and served the Lord and others her whole life. She loved her husband, three daughters, five grandchildren, and her many friends. She loved Tallowood Baptist Church, her Sunday School, Supper Club, and Baylor University. She was known for her sweet, generous spirit. She used the gifts God gave her to further His kingdom's work, especially through teaching.
Susan grew up in Fort Stockton, Texas, moved to Houston and graduated from Bellaire High School. She graduated from Baylor University in 1962, was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and continued to be a committed Baylor alum and sports fan. She married the love of her life, Clint Bateman. They built their life in Houston, and she taught 2nd grade. She then went on to teach preschool and become Director of the Preschool at Tallowood Baptist Church. She also taught Ladies Sunday School and was the director of the Ladies Weekday Bible Study.
As a married couple, Susan and Clint formed lifelong friendships with several couples with whom they raised children and vacationed through the years. She also traveled internationally with Clint and their friends. She was a true and devoted friend.
She is survived by her daughters, Stacie Crowson; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Will Driskell; daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Michael McDuffie. She was affectionally known as "Gram" to her five grandchildren: Hailey, Blake, Rachel, Marshall, and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clint, her sister, Sharon, her niece, and her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Drive, Houston, Texas, on Saturday, June 11 at 2 p.m.

Your a mother was such a special woman.
I had the wonderful joy to work with her at at Tallowood Preschool.During our journey we became friends.I Love your mother.She'd share such fun stories of you girls, your Galveston summer trips.We would go on trips for preschool and laugh all the way there and back.She made a BlackBerry wi e cake and it was in the back of our church van.After a stop and returning to the car,we opened the door and what an aroma of wine.How we all laughed.Pam,Pat,Lois.Sally,Betsy.well it was most funny.
She was one special woman,Laughed so much,listened to you,loved children,so proud of her family.
I attended all your weddings and always blessed by the
By the Bateman Love.At this most difficult time I send my heartbreaking love and sympathy to each of you.Due to personal illness I am Unable to be with you today.I will be watching live stream.
She will be so missed.
