Thomas H. (Tom) Griffin passed away on December 17, 2022 after a brief illness. Tom graduated from Texas A&I University, Kingsville in 1952 and immediately joined the US Air Force for pilot training. He flew jet fighters for four years on active duty including Sabre jets in Korea, the Philippines and Formosa. After leaving active duty, he continued flying jet fighters with the 111th Fighter Squadron at Ellington Field for 12 years. Tom retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1974.
In 1960 he began his career in the brokerage industry at Merrill Lynch. Subsequently he joined Rotan Mosle, Paine Webber and UBS. In 2022 he retired as Senior Vice President-Wealth Management, UBS Financial Services, Inc.
Tom loved to cook. In 1977, with one of his better recipes, he won the World Championship Chili Cook Off in Terlingua, Texas. He loved breeding Limousin cattle, established his own seed stock operation, and served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Limousin Cattle Association. His greatest love was horticulture and sharing his produce with others.
Survivors include his wife, Susan, sons Thomas R. (Bonnie) and Gregory (Mary) and stepson COL Clayton Combs; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Grady and Viola Griffin, and brother, Gary. He leaves his sister Shirley Christilles; brothers John (Kay) and Patrick (Donna); sister-in-law Sylvia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
