Thomas Workman

Thomas Edward (Dick) Workman, almost 91 years, of Alvin, TX passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013 with family at his side. The son of Thomas Edward Dick and Maude Madeline Butler Dick Workman was born on November 26, 1922 in Houston, TX. Stepfather Frederick Edgar Workman adopted him. He was married to Ethel Mae (Timmons) Keith Workman for 27 years. He married his high school sweetheart, Bristol Hopkins Mills, at age 78 and they were married for 10 years until her death.
Preceding him in death: mother Maude Workman; stepfather, Frederick Workman; biological father, Thomas Dick; brother Claude Sherman (Dick) Workman; grandfather Commissioner T.J. Dick of League City; grandmother Mary Lelia Sherman Dick; great-grandparents Capt. John Monroe Dick and Amanda Williams Dick. The Dick family were among the earliest settlers in TX in the 1830's before Texas' Independence and brought the Longhorn cattle to TX.
Surviving death: brother Lynn Rogers Workman residing in Galveston; Betty Dick Conklin residing in Cleveland, TX; four children and spouses, Thomas Edward Workman Jr (Virginia) of Taunton, MA, Michael Keith Workman (Christene) of Tulsa, OK, Cheryl Workman Scalora (Michael) of Seabrook, TX, and Christopher Reid Workman (Ruby) of Tracy, CA; beloved grandchildren: Christopher Workman, Jennifer Workman Alexander, Nicole Scalora Tarpley, Ryan Scalora, Racheal, Elizabeth and Philip Workman; and great-grandchildren: Gregor and James Workman; Madelyn and Reid Alexander; Logan Scalora and Natalie, Wesley and Dallas Alexander Tarpley; Jacob, Nicholas, and Micah Workman; and Bentley Workman.
Thomas was born in Houston and raised in Galveston. He was a 1939 graduate of Ball High and graduate from Rice Institute with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He worked at Union Carbide, Foster Wheeler, Catalytic Construction, Procon and Kimberly Clark. He was known world-wide in the Petroleum Industry as "Tex". He owned Workman and Associates.
He was a Veteran of WWII S/SGT in the U.S. Army and received a bronze star in the Ardennes. He visited 64 countries in his work and travels. He was an active leader of the "Romeos" alumni group "Rice Old Men Eating Out". He was a Methodist and later a devout Catholic. He lived his faith, was a loyal friend and a generous man. His wit, ease of communication, joking, coy smile, teasing and love for others will be missed.
His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan 18, 2014 at 10 AM at Seabrook United Methodist Church, 3300 Lakeside Dr, Seabrook, TX 77586.
Interment following will be at Fairview Cemetery with the three previous generations of the Dick family at 901 North Kansas St in League City, TX. There will be a reception at The One Room Schoolhouse next to the original family home.
