Mike and I were new members of the Waller-Hempstead area and upon meeting Travis at the grocery store, he wanted to make sure that we were welcomed to the area, so he invited us to a party at his home. He made sure that everyone at that party met us and encouraged them to make us welcome to Waller County! That was the beginning of a long-term friendship. He hosted our 4-H clubs many times at his home, opening his home and pool to the boys and girls and their leaders, supplying refreshments for the events. He purchased our daughter's champion animal projects over the years; and even when they didn't have the high placing animals! Upon the birth of our first grandchild, Cody Wayne, his gift to Ann was a CASE of Pampers! This became a yearly gift for two years! Travis was there for so many youths in the county over the years and all of them respected him, not because of his gifts to them, but because they recognized the goodness and kindness of his gentle spirit. He was teaching them about compassion and the servitude of the Lord! Years later when Mike started his orphanage ministry in Kenya, Travis would contact us to see how he could help; many times supporting our annual fundraiser for the children's homes. As you can see by all the above accolades, Travis was embedded in many, many hearts all over the world! Rest in Peace, dear sweet friend! You will TRULY be missed by so, so many!----

I have many wonderful memories of Travis! Our family visited Europe with him several times - he made friends wherever we traveled - so curious, engaging and fun. The chopping block that resided in my parents house (Arlys and Mary Bing) for many years came from his grocery store. He hosted amazing parties, and was always so generous. Love to the family.

Travis was one of our best overseas friend. We met him for the first time in 1994 when he came home with his friend for the 50 years of the battle of the bugle in Bastogne ( Belgium). Since then we visited him and Suzan every year during our holidays in Texas and New Mexico. We had him still at the phone last Friday, so happy to leave the hospital the Saturday. God decided another way.
We miss you Travis. RIP. Your Belgian friends Chris. & Jacques Dupont

I am sorry to see him go but we all must travel this road. He was a great pillow of this community. I am thank because my mom won her 1st brand new car at his store. He was happy for her cause we would have car trouble many times at the store. He blessed her by taking care some of the expenses for that car. This is one of many blessings my family received while shopping at his store. Thanks Travis for being so kind to us and many others in this community. Now it is your time to take your rest. RIH and tell Keith his school mates send their hello's. Now you all can share many things about our home town. May God give comfort and strength during this difficult time to his family.

Mr. Winfree was one of the nicest guys I ever met. I came to know him while Coaching and teaching in Waller and later as teacher/coach and JH Principal in Hempstead ISD. He was always willing to support both schools as mentioned in his obituary. He supported teachers and parents. I enjoyed his stories. So many Waller County citizens benefitted from his works. We were blessed to have known him.

Mr. Winfree was a kind-hearted upstanding citizen. Admired by many for his continued contributions to the community of Hempstead; and his loyalty and respect for all veterans. While the Hempstead community has suffered a great loss, he's left many footprints on the heart's of our community. A life well lived.

I never met him but knew him through a Cousin. I admire him and his many contributions to this Country. I had 5 brothers in Military and some served in Vietnam. His life was full of making others happy. God Bless his family and I am deeply saddened by their loss but what a legacy he left behind. Rest peacefully.
