Virginia McIntyre Obituary

Virginia "Genny" Newell McIntyre
01/25/1956 - 05/21/2024
Virginia "Genny" Newell McIntyre, was born on the 25th of January 1956, in Cambridge, Massachusetts and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday the 21st of May 2024.
As a transplanted Texan, Genny went to Memorial High School in Houston and graduated from the University of Texas Summa Cum Laude with a BS degree in Computer Science and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Genny worked for 25 years in the oil and gas industry as a Software Engineer. In 1991, Genny married John, the love of her life, and retired in 1995 to be a full-time mom. Genny dedicated her life to her two beautiful children, Madi and Mason. She was fully involved in every aspect of their lives, becoming a part of their schools, sports and organizations.
Genny was the President of the Parents Association at St. Francis Episcopal Day School where she was also a proud participant of the Arts Alliance. She was President of the Women's Auxiliary of Post Oak Little League, and Chair of the YEES Senior Events at Episcopal High School. Genny was the President of the Mother's Association "Minerva" for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Texas. She was also a member of the Chancellor's Council as well as the Liberal Arts Board at UT.
As a devout member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, Genny served as a member of the Vestry, President of the Episcopal Women's Council, past President and longtime member of the Altar Guild, and was honored to be on the Endowment Board of the Church.
After experiencing a terrifying home robbery, Genny developed a passion to fight crime and encouraged the Houston community to exercise their right to vote. She and her friends started a grass roots organization called Citizens United Against Crime, or "CUAC" as she liked to call it. She spent countless hours working to boost voter awareness by emailing, calling, texting, and block walking to spread the word.
Genny leaves behind a grieving network of friends who loved her dearly. She enjoyed dancing, playing Mah-Jongg, workouts at HCC, traveling with family and friends, Tex Mex on Friday nights, lunches with the Birthday Girls, walking her dogs Walter and Daisy, catching up with friends, and always, organizing life for John, Madi and Mason. She touched everyone she met, and truly lit up every room with her smile, her grace, her elegance, and her fun-loving spirit.
Genny is preceded in death by her parents, Ozzie and Virginia Newell, and her sisters Mary Becker and Debbie Bidock, whom she adored. She is survived by her devoted husband John; her daughter, Mary Madison, and her son Mason Neale. She is also survived by her brother Bo Newell and his wife Sheila, and their son Aron; sister-in-law Betsy Harris and her husband Dan, and their sons Dan and Clay along with their families.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Genny from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 29th of May in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 30th of May in the sanctuary of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Bagby Parish Hall.

So very sorry to hear about Genny. She was a wonderful person with an infectious laugh. She always questioned that why as a liberal did I read the Wall Street Journal. Mason and Lillian Young, my daughter, attended SFEDS. RIP Genny.

I knew Genny, Sheila and Bo as clients of my store for the 28 years i owned it. Genny was always so kind, sweet and thoughtful and spoke of the love and pride she had of her family. Shocked and saddened, but believe that she will be watching over you all.
Keep sharing the memories. That keeps her living on in your hearts.
May her memory be for a blessing.

I only knew Genny as a good customer when I worked at the Home Entertainment Westheimer store. She always depended on me to suggest the perfect electronic gadget for John's birthday or Christmas present. I was in that business for 31 years and out of hundreds of customers only a handful leave the lasting impression as Genny did. I'm so sorry to read of her passing and I send my prayers to her family

I have known the McIntyre family since 2004. We took care of Coco, Mocha, Daisy, and Walter! She was a loving and most friendly lady I knew. She always lite up a room when she walked in and was always happy. Prays for the family in the time of sadness. We will miss her so much.

Virginia McIntyre was my client for approximately 25 years. She was an amazing pet owner and a wonderful person in general. There aren't too many people that we meet in our lives that we can truly say are wonderful to be around 100% of the time. Mrs. McIntyre was one of those rarities. I opened my own practice in September of 2022 and was incredibly happy when the McIntyres found me a few months later. Her loss will be very painful for us and I'm sure for our community and for all the people who were fortunate enough to have known her.

My best friend has gone to Heaven. My heart is broken. But, I have hundreds of wonderful memories of our childhood adventures, whether it was riding your bicycle all over Houston, jumping on the trampoline and practicing our triple flips, building forts, fishing in Galveston, traveling in Europe, playing cards, playing the piano, playing Grey Wolf...gosh, so many wonderful memories of the best childhood a person could ever have! I will miss you forever until I see you in Heaven. Rest with much love,
