Wei Chao Obituary

Wei Fong Chu Chao, beloved wife of deceased Ting Tsung (T.T.) Chao, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at home on July 1, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old.
Born on Jan. 6, 1921 in Jinan, China, Wei Fong worked as an operating room nurse in Suzhou during WWII until she married T. T. in 1943. She and her husband moved to Taipei in 1946 with their daughter. She eventually settled in Houston, Texas in late 1990s. She will be remembered as a woman with great strength, fortitude, and generosity. She was also a gourmet cook, a devout Buddhist, a serious golfer and a crack mahjong player. Throughout her life, Mrs. Chao remained devoted to her family and to many philanthropic causes. She was on the board of Jinling Girls High School in Taipei, on the board of numerous Buddhist organizations, served as chairman of the Tanglewood Property Group, and president of the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Foundation. In this capacity she made significant contributions to healthcare, educational, religious and cultural organizations around the world. She was an inspiration to many, but above all to her family.
Mrs. Chao is survived by her children Dorothy Chao Jenkins and her husband Charles Jenkins Jr., James Chao and his wife Lydia Koo, Albert Chao and his wife Anne Shen, grandchildren Jennifer Jenkins and husband Jamie Boyle, Anthony Jenkins, John Chao, David Chao, Catherine Chao, Elizabeth Chao and her husband Almog Bokobza, Carolyn Chao and her husband Jake Sabat, great grandchildren Madeline and Wyatt Sabat, and Sophia Chao.
A memorial service will be held on July 18, 2014, at the Chung Mei Buddhist Temple, 12550 Jebbia Lane, Stafford, TX, 77477, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the charity of your choice.
