William Edwards Obituary
WILLIAM H. "BILL" EDWARDS passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, the 20th of October 2007, at the age of 88 years. He was born one of three children to William Edward and Margaret Mae Mason Edwards on the 18th of November 1918 in Adrian, Oregon. He was raised in New Plymouth, Idaho where he graduated high school in 1938 and attended the University of Idaho for one year. He then moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech where he joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation from Georgia Tech in 1943, Bill was employed by Combustion Engineering, Inc. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In April of 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy. As a Lieutenant JG working in the 19th Fleet in Bremerton, Washington where he met and fell in love with Pauline Calhoun. They were married in Seattle, Washington on the 6th of October 1944. In 1946, he and his bride moved to Chattanooga where he returned to work with Combustion Engineering. His professional career started with Texaco, Inc. in 1947 where he worked in Production Research. In 1951 he joined The Superior Oil Company as a Corrosion Engineer and his career spanned four decades until his retirement. Bill was a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas, Idaho, California, and Colorado. He was an active member of NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers). Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his brother, Herbert M. Edwards and his sister, Mary Anne Edwards. Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Bruce C. Edwards and his wife, Marta, of Huntsville and Greg M. Edwards and his wife, Aida, of Katy; grandchildren, Michael Leigh Hussaini of Houston, Eric William Edwards of Sugar Land, Katharine Jean Edwards of San Antonio, and Christopher Ian Edwards of Houston; and four great-grandchildren. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with his family from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 25th of October 2007 at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. A Memorial Service will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 26th of October 2007 in the Old Church of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, with the Rev. John R. Bentley, Jr. officiating. A reception will follow immediately in Founder's Hall. Inurnment of both Mr. and Mrs. Edwards will take place at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 26th of October 2007 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
